US hits 200,000+ public EV charging ports milestone… Did anyone else notice?

It’s pretty impressive to see this number! What do you think about it?

I didn’t realize gas stations have been decreasing in number. Just learned about it recently. Seems like things are changing quicker than we think.

@Bryce
Yeah, but I’m guessing the total number of pumps is still growing.

Back in the day, you’d see tiny gas stations with just 2 pumps. Now there are places like Buc-ee’s with 100 pumps at once. Crazy.

@Roux
Buc-ee’s seems to be prepping for the future. They’ve already got a bunch of EV chargers, and their pump layout looks easy to convert into more chargers if needed.

I wouldn’t mind spending 15 minutes charging there over a small local station.

@Amelia
Buc-ee’s is basically perfect for charging. You’ve got enough to do for a short wait, and they have tons of spots so it’s never super crowded.

@Bryce
Seems like a great chance to set up convenience stores with a lot full of chargers. Makes sense right?

Is that where people dress up and play games while they charge?

@Cary
That would be a ‘larping’ lot!

At least one company is trying to do something like this:

@Bryce
It’s good for the environment. But it’s surprising there isn’t a tax on gas stations to help with cleanup. The public ends up paying for it.

@Bryce
I avoid gas stations altogether now that I can charge at home. So much more convenient.

@Bryce
That’s amazing to think about.

It’s official! The US has now overtaken the Netherlands in total charging ports, even though the Netherlands is way smaller.

@Penn
Do EVs tend to be more popular in really crowded areas?

Bring on more chargers! The more we have, the easier it’ll be for everyone to switch over without stress.

But how many of these chargers are actually working? :joy:

I’ve never had a problem with non-working chargers on the East or West coast. Maybe I’m just lucky. Lots of folks charge at home and only use public chargers on trips.

@Piper
Funny thing, the first time I used a public charger it was broken!

Did you find it through an app? Which one was it?

Which car and charging service did you use? Just curious.
