I have this feature in my iX. It alerts me to red lights, stop signs, and other traffic signs.

Same here, I have it on my 2021 model in Norway.

What country are you in?
@Tennyson
I have this feature in my 2024 iX in the UK.

I don’t believe this feature is available in the US. I’ve checked multiple cars here.

To be honest, it can be annoying. There’s a stop sign at the end of my road, and the car’s alerts feel like an overly cautious passenger yelling at me to brake. There’s plenty of time to stop. Just chill out.

Yeah, US government regulators are surprisingly slow. There are several features we could have but don’t, not because they’re outlawed, but because they haven’t yet been evaluated and approved.
@Nova
Other BMW models in the US have similar features. It’s not fair to blame US regulators for this particular omission.

I just checked, and the option is in the driver assistance menu under ‘safety and warnings’ labeled as ‘Road Priority Warning’. I realized I can set it to ‘late’ instead of ‘medium’, which might be why it’s been irritating me.

That might be true, but don’t they require that every model variant be approved, which prolongs the process?
@Paris
Yes, different models can have different features and options that allow for such technologies. You can’t assume that just because one BMW model has iDrive 8 or 8.5, another model with the same system will have exactly the same features.

No, I understand, and you keep the miles so as not to have to convert both your speed and the speed limit signs. I also just like calling the Imperial system ‘Freedom Units.’ I’ve lived in a metric country too, and adjusting to temperature was easy, but distance and speed were harder for me, although there’s no logical reason for that.
@Dana
Right, I didn’t need to adjust for speed or distance. For speed, I just match the numbers on the speedometer to the speed limit signs, so no mental conversion is necessary. Distance isn’t a big deal where I live now, as road distances are typically measured by driving time, not miles. Speed limits provide a clear external reference. As for temperature, I’ve continued using Celsius because it’s not tied to any external references.

How’s the phantom braking going? And the rattles, do they still keep your teeth chattering?
