Has anyone else noticed high insurance costs for their EV6 with Allstate? Just got my renewal, and they raised the premium by about $600, saying it’s because of increased Kia thefts! Funny thing is, they didn’t seem to mind when I first got it insured six months ago. It’s a 2024 EV6, by the way.
I actually switched over to Amica for both my cars and drivers, and the savings are huge! Really hoping it stays that way. I’m in the Seattle area, if that helps anyone.
Allstate might be talking about the newer theft issue with Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis EVs. Different from the old thefts but still targeting these brands.
Yeah, that lawsuit against Kia didn’t go far enough. It only covered direct theft victims, but really, all Kia owners suffered. Our car values dropped, and insurance rates went up.

I’m not sure how well these cars will hold up in the used market even with a lawsuit. I’ve read they might not retain their value well. And with the current government stance on EVs and climate, I doubt we’ll see much progress in charging infrastructure anytime soon, despite the infrastructure bill. The tech is great, but the obstacles with insurance, infrastructure, and repairs still feel overwhelming.
I’m in Arizona, paying about $600 to $700 every six months, but I had a $3,000 claim last year. Without that, my premium would likely be around $450 with Progressive.
Just renewed mine here in Michigan. My 2023 EV6 is $1,923 for the year, while my 2019 Optima SXL is $1,876. Total came to $4,250 with bundle discount. Rates have jumped about $1,000 this year. Talked to a few agents, and they all quoted around the same.
My EV6 was $1,039, then after switching to an EV9 it’s down to $1,004 for six months with a $2,000 deductible. Three drivers, one of them a teen. Had a $9,500 claim a couple of years back. Looking at these rates, I need to start shopping around!
I was with Allstate in Canada for over a decade, but decided to shop around with the EV6. Ended up choosing Desjardins. They offered more than a 50% reduction compared to Allstate. It’s worth comparing companies—not just for the cheapest, but for those with good customer service in case of claims.
