Just added an EV6 to my insurance. With minimum coverage, it added about $250 to my six-month premium. I’m in upstate NY near the VT border.
I have Esurance, underwritten by Allstate, on my 2019 Niro EV. Rates are high here in Georgia but were way lower in Tennessee, so it’s more about location than the insurer, I think.
Switched from Allstate to Travelers and got better coverage for way less money.
Just went through this with our new EV6. Allstate’s premium increase was shocking, especially after being loyal customers for years. They always promised we’d see lower rates as good drivers, but it just kept going up. We ended up switching to Geico for a much better rate.
@Parker
Allstate is known for these rate hikes. Had them for years and always experienced these sudden increases without clear reasons. It’s like they count on us not wanting to switch. Amica caught my eye because they have an option for my daughter when she turns 25 to get her own policy, so if she has an accident, it won’t affect me. Let’s see how it works out next renewal!
I’m in Seattle too. My coworker with an EV6 had Allstate, and they gave her a hard time about covering it, even though she had multiple policies with them. She switched to State Farm, and her rates didn’t increase much, plus her home insurance rates went down.
