A Sad Day Indeeed!

It looks like it’s my turn for ICCU replacement! My 2023 SEL started warning me yesterday about the electric vehicle system, throwing the turtle power indicator at me, and if I drive more than a few blocks, yelling at me to stop safely and check the power supply. Had been driving just fine all day before this. Gotta say I’m a little disappointed… just under a year of use and I have to get a major part replaced?

I had mine for 2 days before I had to pay the ICCU troll toll

Did you also get into that boy’s soul?

Perhaps a master of karate and friendship?

I wonder if trying to unwind the sale would have been better. Some states allow a short window to return assuming under a certain mileage. Who knows if the next one would have the same issue outside the window though.

You paid?

Just to clarify some of the comments below. When the ICCU goes, you need to be towed to a dealer and have it replaced. If your 12V battery goes, you can use a booster to power the car up and drive to a shop and get a replacement 12V battery. But if your ICCU blows you can’t use a booster to drive anywhere. And why would a 12V die? Well… Hyundai ships a really crap 12V battery for starters. So it could just be a bad 12V. Or it could be that the ICCU didn’t keep the 12V charged. Which could mean you need some work on the ICCU software/hardware but on a less urgent basis.

@Joss
Whether you need to be towed when the ICCU goes depends on the type of damage. One type allows you to still drive the car and DC charge, but will not allow you to AC charge.

@Joss
Anecdote here - 2022 SEL owner, last month the car died with the ‘electric vehicle system’ warning so I first replaced the battery, which fixed it. One week later, the car had the same warning and alerts but I was able to drive it 10 miles to the nearest dealer inc. highway with no evident issue. Dealer diagnosed it as ICCU failure and replaced it under warranty with the new revision.

@Joss
Are they different messages on screen for the different problems? Can you distinguish the issue this way? Does the 5 shut down quickly?

@Joss
Funny, sort of a play with words there. You said they ship crap 12V batteries for starters. Even though the cars don’t have starters :slight_smile: Of course I know what you meant, but it read like an ice comment.

@Lane
Well, they probably are crap batteries for starters.

Sigh, I’ve had mine for 7 months. Just waiting for battery or ICCU failure. I do have a booster pack in my frunk for emergencies.

Booster packs are useless if the ICCU fails…trust me I know, in for repair, 6 weeks and still waiting.

What booster pack are you packing? I’ve been considering something like this just to take a little edge off the range anxiety.

@NomadNerd
The cheapest NOCO possible. Since the car doesn’t need to crank, a small one will work fine. It won’t do a thing for range, just let you start it if the 12 V battery fails.

I have a NOCO and I’ve jumped a bunch of ICE cars with it to help people stranded. Always fun helping them out from an EV
