The BMW iX configurator doesn’t offer all-season tyres for 22-inch wheels. Is there any reason why they’re not available? I find it strange that there’s no option.
Not sure, but just so you know, if you go with all-seasons, your top speed is limited to 125mph. With summer tires, it goes up to 155mph.
I didn’t realize this when I ordered mine and now I’m stuck with the 125mph limit. There’s no way to fix it through a software update, which is frustrating.
I guess that’s why most iX models at dealers have summer tires, but BMW doesn’t make this clear in the configurator, which is kind of annoying.
@Keelan
That’s interesting, but I can’t imagine needing to drive that fast anyway. I live in the Northeast, so summer tires aren’t really an option for me unless I want to change them every season, and that just sounds like a hassle.
@Keelan
Why would you need to drive a big car like that faster than 125mph?

Honestly, with how quick these EVs are, I’ve hit 115mph by accident just on freeway ramps. On an empty freeway, I could easily see myself hitting 130+ just for fun. But yeah, I wouldn’t do that with traffic around.
@Keelan
Still dangerous and illegal. You could lose your license for that.

Alright, calm down Dad.
@Keelan
It’s unfair they don’t disclose this info in the configurator.
@Keelan
125mph?! Straight to jail!
@Keelan
Wait, is this really true? Do you have a source for this info? I’ve only seen 125mph listed as the top speed everywhere I checked.

Check the ordering guide. If you select 21” or 22” wheels with performance tires, you also get option 840, which increases the speed limiter.
@Nico
Wow, that’s crazy, and it’s even worse that you can’t fix it later with a software update.
For the 2024 BMW iX in the US, there aren’t any OEM 22-inch all-season tire options. The largest all-season size available is 21 inches.
I live in the Northeast too and have summer tires on my 22-inch wheels. I’m debating whether to get smaller rims with winter tires or just find some 22-inch all-seasons and be done with it.

I went with Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires for my 22-inch BMW wheels. They’ve been great.
@Val
That sounds like a solid option. I’m leaning in the same direction.

Yeah, it’s just disappointing that 22-inch all-seasons aren’t available in the configurator.
@Neve
Totally agree. I bought mine used, so I didn’t have a choice. The summer tires have been good so far though.

Honestly, with the mild winters we’ve had lately, I’m starting to wonder if we even need all-season or winter tires anymore. Lol.
@Neve
Haha, I’ve thought the same thing!
