Why Won't Dealers Negotiate on EV Leases?

I’m in upstate NY. Dealer offered me a 24-month lease on a 2024 Ioniq5 Limited at $560 per month with $1,000 down, for 12k miles a year. MSRP was around 59k. I told them I’d seen similar leases at $400/month, but the sales manager disagreed. They also said they don’t offer one-pay leases or lower mileage leases.

I’m considering going to other dealers. Is $400/month with $1,000 down realistic, or should I aim for something else? Does switching from a 24-month to 36-month lease affect monthly costs much?

Try visiting a few other dealers until someone gives you a fair deal. A lot of it seems to come down to how flexible they are.

Good idea! I want to be sure the numbers I’m asking about are realistic, especially if I switch from 2 to 3 years. The dealer here was really pushing for a 3-year lease, claiming it was standard.

In SoCal, I got a ‘24 I5 Limited through a broker. Saved me a lot of hassle, and they even delivered it to my driveway. The broker fee was worth it for the deal I got.

I’m in SoCal too and used a broker as well. I’d also recommend it.

@Dane
Mind sharing what price range you got?

Yeah, I’m curious too. SoCal here as well.

Around $360/month for 24 months with 12k miles, and I paid about $2,500 upfront.

I managed to get a Matte Gray SEL AWD for $399 a month, no money down, on a 13-month lease with 10k miles here in Chicago. Feels like a rare find after reading this thread.

Had a similar experience in the DC area. Dealer quoted over $700/month for a 24 Limited AWD at first, then “found” some discounts but only got it down to around $650 with just the first month due at signing. I’ve seen way lower rates from lease brokers, but they insisted that was their best offer.

I’d like to lease soon, especially if tax credits might change, but not at these prices. My current lease is on a pricier car, and I’m still paying less.

@Finch
I got a Limited AWD for 24 months, 12k miles as a single-pay lease at $12k total, including tax, title, and fees, in a high-tax state without state EV credits.

I’m also struggling with Texas dealers. It’s frustrating because I’d love to just order online with listed terms. But if I try in person, they say they don’t have anything at the listed prices and let me walk out. Online attempts just reset everything, and they act like the prices listed were errors.

I really want an Ioniq 5, but the markups are too much.

It’s a Limited model, so it does come with more features if that’s a factor for you.

Anyone know how much NY gives in EV rebates? That’s a big factor in lowering lease rates. I’ve also heard there were good incentives on 13-month leases in October, but I’m not sure if Hyundai still offers them or if they vary by region.

I’m in the PNW, and the best I found was $600/month on a Limited AWD with 36 months/12k miles. So, it could be worth shopping around.

@Nyx
I think NY offers about $2,400.

That’s roughly $100 off per month on a 24-month lease, so their offer is still around $60/month more than what I got. It might depend on how many Ioniqs they have in stock. If they have a lot, you might have more leverage.

Out of curiosity, how much do brokers usually charge?

Usually $500-1,000. You can check leasehackr for more details.

Is that broker fee included in the lease, or is it separate? I was just browsing the deals and didn’t realise there was an extra fee.

You should be able to get around $450/month for a 24-month, 12k miles lease with $1,000 down.
