Who here uses a dash cam and which one do you recommend

Are you currently using a dash cam If so, do you have any recommendations

FitCamX is a great choice if you’re looking for a dash cam that blends seamlessly with your car’s interior. It looks like it’s part of the original equipment.

The people who stole my car didn’t even notice the dash cam was there.

@Finley
Whenever I check the dash cam footage from when my car is serviced, there’s usually someone commenting on whether or not there’s a cam recording, often surprised to find one.

@Finley
That’s really cool, though it’s terrible about your car being stolen.

Luckily, I got it back the next morning, thanks to my AirTags.

Legitimate question… didn’t the built-in car locator work

I also have one. How long does it stay on after you turn off the car I noticed mine seems to always be on.

@Shawn
If it’s connected to the internal fuse box, it depends on which fuse you’ve connected it to. For the version connected to the auto-dimmer cable by the rear view mirror, I’m not sure how long it stays on. If yours is always on, it might be draining the 12V battery.

@Piper
That’s my concern, the dimmer draining the 12V.

Have you checked FitCamX’s FAQ on their website Maybe reach out to their customer support for clarification on what to expect. Good luck.

Does it connect to the OEM rear view camera, or do you need to install another one

@Avery
It doesn’t connect to the OEM rear view camera. You need to install a separate one.

Actually, the OEM rear view mirror does connect. It seems you meant that no third-party recorder connects to it. Thanks for the clarification.

@Avery
Yes, thanks for pointing that out, albeit a bit too precisely for this context.

Stating things precisely isn’t being overly meticulous if the initial explanation was incorrect. Accuracy is crucial in technical discussions.

@Avery
Depending on your car model, it can connect to the auto-dimmer rear view mirror, or you might need to route wires down to the fuse panel. There’s also the option to buy a rear view camera that connects via cable to the front camera. Installing the wiring isn’t too hard but needs careful handling.

@Piper
I’m referring to the Limited model that already has a camera installed. It’s unclear whether it’s possible to split the existing signal cable between the mirror’s display and a dashcam recorder. It seems unlikely, but it would be helpful if someone could confirm that you need to install a separate camera and wiring at the rear, even though there’s already a video signal cable from the OEM rear camera to the mirror.
