What is the duration required by EA to activate a charging station?

Electrify America constructed a brand-new station at the grocery store a mile from my house last year. The station is still marked as “coming soon” on the app, even though everything has been set up and is ready to go for the past eight months. The chargers have just been sitting there with plastic wrap still on the charging “hoses” Since Electrify America was finished in December 2023, how long does it take for them to actually turn on the station?

At that time, Electrify America can no longer control it.

The delay can be attributed to the electricity company.

The newest EA station closest to me, according to Plugshare, had all of its hardware installed on May 23; activation didn’t happen until March 24.

Delays in activating new charging stations, particularly with Electrify America, are unfortunately quite common. Although there’s no set timeline for when a station will be operational after construction, several factors can contribute to extended delays:

  1. Software and Network Integration: Properly integrating the chargers into the Electrify America network can be time-consuming.
  2. Payment and Authorization Systems: Setting up secure payment processing and user authentication systems can be complex.
  3. Testing and Quality Assurance: Comprehensive testing is necessary to ensure the station’s reliability and performance.
  4. Permitting and Inspections: Local authorities may require additional permits or inspections before the station can be activated.

What You Can Do:

  1. Contact Electrify America: Reach out to their customer support to inquire about the status of the station and provide details about your location.
  2. Local Outreach: Connect with your local electric vehicle community or government officials for any available information about the delay.
  3. Monitor the App: Regularly check the Electrify America app for updates on the station’s activation status.
