I hope you’re alright, even if the car isn’t. Airbags often make the repair costs skyrocket, so it might be a total loss. But at least you’ll be warm. You can always get a new car.
Yes, it’s totaled. Time to start looking for another car.

Quick question: after a car is totaled, is there any way to claim the battery? I’d love to get one for solar use. EV batteries are pretty massive. Snow tires for my EV6 GT were essential. The stock tires were practically racing slicks, and with 600 HP, it was a disaster waiting to happen. The GT came only with summer tires, not the GT line ones.
@CathyGenesis
I’ve always been a strong advocate for snow tires. I got my GT earlier this year and thought I’d just be careful since it’s a lease. Then, on the last snow of the season, I was at a stop on an offramp and the car just slid sideways even though it was ‘parked’. Ordered snow tires that night.
@Emerson
Yep, I can confirm. The stock GT tires are really unsafe in the snow. I almost lost control the first winter I had mine.
@CathyGenesis
There’s a way to buy back the car from the insurance company, but it’s probably not what you’d want to do. A friend of mine had a 2012 Jeep Cherokee that was rear-ended and deemed a total loss. They offered him $12,600, but he had just spent $4,000 on repairs. They allowed him to buy it back for $1,300, so he got $11,300 instead. From there, he could fix the car himself. So, in theory, you can do that, but you’ll have to manage the repairs on your own.
@Micah
Good info, thanks!
Where are you located? What did you hit?

In Golden. I ended up hitting a wall after going through a roundabout with a slight decline.

Sorry to hear that. It’s crazy, I actually canceled an appointment I had up there this morning!
Oof. Did you have snow tires? The roads in CO were pretty sketchy this morning.

I have all-season tires, and with AWD it usually handles the snow well, but I must have hit some ice and slid.
@Robin
That’s tough. With the GT, I’d have thought snow tires would be a must for winter. Do you run the all-seasons year-round?

I keep the stock summer tires on during the warmer months and switch to the all-seasons when it gets colder or when I want the black look.
@Robin
You got a second set of tires but didn’t put snow-specific tires on? They make a huge difference compared to all-season tires.
@Robin
I’ve heard that. Well, it looks totaled to me.

Thanks, I really loved this car. It’s a shame there’s no snow mode for the GT.

Sorry to hear that. FYI, if anyone’s interested, you can get snow mode by holding down the drive mode button until it activates.
@Pat
It’s unfortunate that the GT doesn’t have a snow mode. It has eco, normal, sport, and GT modes, but no snow. But thanks for the tip .
