Test drove a MachE AWD and F150 Lightning today... is the EV6 still the best?

So, I’m still saving up for an EV6, but I thought I’d test drive some competitors like the Mach E AWD and F150 Lightning. Here’s what I thought:

Interiors:

Mach E: The interior was decent, but felt a bit more cramped compared to the EV6. The drive mode changes weren’t easy to figure out.

F150 Lightning: Spacious, but I couldn’t get comfortable with the go pedal. A bit boring.

Driving:

Mach E: Not as agile as the EV6, and I felt a lot of bumps on the road. The power delivery was slower.

F150 Lightning: It felt like a truck but was very quiet. The power was good, though it took off a bit too quickly for my liking. I’m not sure I want such a large vehicle.

Also, neither of them has paddle shifters…

So, I guess these two are off my list now.

The EV6 doesn’t have paddle shifters either. It has paddles, but they don’t actually shift gears. I liked both the Mach-E and the EV6 a lot. Ended up getting a better deal on the EV6, but I found the ride and acceleration to be pretty similar. The Mach-E is a little bigger inside if you need extra space.

@Eli
Actually, it does have paddle shifters. The owner’s manual calls them that, but you’re right—they don’t actually shift the gears.

Shifting the regen levels? :thinking::male_sign:

Yes, pulling the paddles changes the regen. I use it every day in my other car.

@Tal
Just having fun with the words :+1:

@Eli
I agree with everything except the acceleration. In sport mode, the EV6 is like a roller coaster—really intense! The Mach-E, even in unbridled mode, didn’t give me that same stomach-flipping feeling.

@Jordan
I had my son with me when I tested the EV6 in sport mode. I floored it from a stop, and after we finished, he said ‘I didn’t like that’…lol

The EV6 GT is an absolute beast, especially once you pass 60 mph. It pulls like a powerful ICE car. I’m excited about the 2025 version—the new interior, powertrain, and ventilated seats make me want to get another EV6 GT when my lease ends.

@Zadie
Any idea when the 2025 EV6s will be available in the US?

They should probably be available by spring next year. Kia seems to be a little behind with the EV6.

Why do they seem behind with the EV6?

I originally wanted the MME because I’ve always had Fords. It had more headroom, but my knee kept hitting the iPad control thing. Plus, I didn’t like the glass roof without shade protection. After a week, I drove the EV6, and the difference was night and day. I came from an F-150, so I wanted to like the Lighting, but the price wasn’t justifiable at that time. I’m 100% happy with my EV6.

Have you driven the GV60? I drove both and ended up buying the Genesis. It’s more expensive though.

I haven’t driven it, probably out of my price range, but thanks for the suggestion .

There are some great deals on used EV6s. You could get an AWD Wind model for half the cost of a new one if you look hard enough.

Yep, I’m only looking for used ones.

The easy access to the drive modes is one of the best features of the e-GMP cars. I did a quick search and found that you can change drive modes using voice control. I prefer using a button, but voice control could be better than navigating through the screen.

@Crosby
Are you saying the Mach-E can use voice control to change drive modes, or is that for the EV6?

That’s for the Mach-E. I found this info through a search, but I can’t find anything to confirm it. If I test drive one, I’ll check to see if it’s true.
