Tesla supercharger cables reaching charging port... what's next for EV owners?

It’s good to have the option when stranded. I’m fortunate to not have to touch anything Tesla where I live

Agreed not only is it too slow, you have to support a fascist while doing it

Where did you get your adapter?

Looks like it’s a magic dock supercharger where the adapter is built in

I wanted to be ready whenever access became available, so I jumped the gun and purchased the A2Z TYPHOON PRO when it was on sale

Is it the one Kia/Hyundai are offering?

@Dezi
Probably not. Not sure where KИ and Hyundai will source their NACS to CCS1 adapters, other manufacturers have been using Tesla or Lectron IIRC. A2Z has really good reviews, and I didn’t feel like waiting around for however long it might take Kia/Hyundai to make their “OEM” adapters available

@Blaine
My only concern is they say it voids the warranty using an unapproved adapter

@Blaine

still only 99kW of charging power. lame, tesla, lame

@Qi
I just left from Vegas… you’re right i got out charged at Primm and Barstow to make it back to LA. When these EAs work i love ‘em, so far but I’ve just had my ev6 for two days

It’s wild how it’s easier to charge in between LA and Vegas than inside LA or Vegas

@Qi
Same. Driving up from Chicago to Madison I went out of my way to use the supercharger closer to Milwaukee because of the reliability of EA

@Qi
Going north into Utah, the line at the superchargers at Beaver are epic. Last time I stopped there I was chatting to a couple of Tesla drivers who’d been waiting over an hour for a free stall. Supercharger access is not the nirvana many people want it to be. Slow AF for us Kia owners and loooooooooooong lines at a lot of the places

Hell, I’d be chuffed to get 99 kW if it was consistent. On road trips, I’m usually adding about 70% of SOC, or about 54 kWh or so. I don’t mind spending 30 mins or so doing that. Besides, I rarely sustain much over 125 kW at CCS DC chargers anyway due to derating when all the pedestals are in use, and sometimes around 50-80 kW. And I frequently have to join a queue on top of that. Whereas I’ve never seen an even half full TSC

I did a socal-to-vegas trip yesterday and hit 3 EA 350kw chargers. One peaked at 150kw (around 30% SoC), the other two peaked at 125kw (around 30% / 40%). The Charging station I stopped at in Baker, CA had - I shit you not - 70-90 mostly empty Tesla stalls, and 12 EA stalls, and along my route I saw at least 2 other Tesla locations with at least 20 stalls free. I know it’s popular to scoff at the 99kw max on the v3 chargers, but you can’t deny they’re available when you need them. I’d rather plug into 99kw with guaranteed zero wait time, then roll the dice at a 4-stall EA location, where I might hit 250, but might only hit 125

I mean I agree Tesla is lame but that’s better than a lot of the “super fast” chargers I’ve stopped at lately lol the infrastructure is so disappointing, I’m glad I mostly just charge at home

@Zhen
Charging at home is the “killer app” of EVs. Without at least level 1 home charging, owning an EV is probably not worth it, at least financially speaking. I use DCFCs only on road trips, about twice a year. At home, I charge at only around 8 kW, which is plenty fast for overnight and a bit easier on the connections

@Van
Exactly, I’m the same way (only fast charging on road trips) which when I got the car I was happy to learn the slower charging is better on your battery anyway lol. I definitely don’t think I would have gotten an EV if I couldn’t charge at home. Love avoiding gas stations during every day life
