Could this new super truck really be a game changer for buyers?
500 mile range with optional gas range extender
10,000 pound tow capacity
solid rear axle
User serviceable
This farmer just might be buying a Volkswagen

Real towing possible with an EV pickup
Real travel possible with an EV pickup
Real off-road adventure possible with an EV pickup
Everyday M-F life still perfectly cheap and convenient EV living
Brilliant design and engineering choices here. Is it for everyone? Absolutely not. Is it for me? Yep! Have reserved mine. Will toss my old Prius when it comes time and use the Scout to drive into my old age. First vehicle I’ve been excited about in many years
60k is way less than I would have thought for starting retail

Wait till they add all the optional stuff they are talking about. Big Tires, 350 mile range plus AWD, plus lockers and suddenly it’s looking closer to $100K
The base truck will be 2 wheel Drive, no lockers, 210 mile range, tiny ugly wheels and tires
@Micah
And unavailable for the first year or two
@Micah
TINY WHEELS?
Nooooooooooooo

True, companies do kinda bait and switch with their price announcements. It takes them a couple of model years to actually attain the price they say, like GM with Equinox EV. It’s $5,000 more (30k vs 35k, but $7,500 credit so)

That’s for the REEV for sure. The BEV will cost a good chunk more
That looks great. So glad to see a Rivian alternative

Yes. Rivian is so dumb for going sans buttons
@Rex
Well, what do you expect for a company where it’s mostly ex-Tesla employees? They copied all that Tesla stuff to a T thinking well if it’s good enough for Tesla it’s good enough for everybody. At the moment I sat in one of those new Kia EVs, I knew Rivian had done it wrong. This looks just about perfect with volume knobs, HVAC switches, but still all the modern functionalities of a touchscreen. When this thing gets closer to production and they start listing build features and options, if they list a HUD option, this thing is going to be a massive win compared to what’s already on the market
@Sam
One thing I would add in favor of Rivian though: I’m still looking forward to R2 and R3 because they are going to be less expensive (50k for R2 & 40-45k for R3 vs 60K for Traveler, I hope). They are relatively less off-roady compared to Traveler (I don’t intend to do a lot of off-roading yet). However, if Scout has a less off-roady trim of Traveler EV, I would be 80% locked in. Lesser ground clearance would lead to easier loading height, correct me if I’m wrong about this. Also smaller vehicle means smaller blind spots and better maneuverability

Apparently VW’s $5B buys them a full IP license
