Just got a new EQE SUV, and it’s been great overall. However, one odd thing really bugs me: the rear camera opens every time I slow down below 20mph, then closes when I go above that. I don’t see anything on the screen, but I hear the sound of the motor each time.
Since I live in a suburban neighborhood with lots of stop signs and a speed limit around 25mph, I go above and below 20mph a lot. I hear that motor buzz at least 10-15 times each drive. I tried Googling it and saw it’s an issue for other models too. Is everyone really dealing with this, or am I missing a fix?

My wife’s does this too, and it drives me nuts! I think it’s because the camera is behind the emblem, so it moves out at low speeds for quick access.
Honestly, if that’s true for everyone, it’s a really bad design choice. I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it, and it doesn’t show up in reviews. Did no one think this would be annoying?
@Bevin
Absolutely agree. We’re lucky we leased ours. It’s a nice car, but I still prefer my BMW i4 (even though it’s a totally different type of vehicle).

Love the car too, but they’re dropping in value fast. Definitely better to lease. I saw a 2023 EQS sedan with 9K miles going for $43K at one dealer!
@Bevin
How much is your lease payment, if you don’t mind me asking? Some dealers still price them like they’re gold, even though the market is dropping fast. There are better deals out there if you do your homework.
@Nova
I got an EQE SUV with AMG package, Alpine grey, and all the top features for $610 per month on a 10K miles per year, 36-month lease. Felt like a pretty good deal for a $95K car!

Nice! That’s a solid deal. I got something similar too.

Sounds like a good deal! How much did you put down? And how do you like the car so far?
I just thought it was a quirk to make reversing easier, but yeah, it can get a bit annoying sometimes. Funny thing, though—it makes tailgaters back off when it happens, which is kind of satisfying!
Also, I really like the ‘behind the star’ design. My old Hyundai i30 had it too, and it never got dirty. My other cars had the camera on the trunk, and they’d get all messy in the winter. I’m glad this car has the hidden camera feature again. It’s the little things that make a difference.

Interesting! I’m coming from a Tesla Model Y, and this wasn’t really a big issue for me.
I think it’s about where the camera is positioned. Some cars have it in a spot that collects all the rain and dirt, especially on bad days. The Model Y cameras are pretty well-designed for multiple features, so that might help too. Some cars just seem to place it wherever is convenient and call it a day.
Mine does the same thing. I have a 2023 EQE SUV, and I thought maybe it was for capturing any potential rear-end collisions.
Quick question: does anyone know the warranty on the battery for these? And if I decide to buy the car at the end of the lease, is there any option to extend it past 100,000 miles?
I assumed it was tied to the dash cam feature so it would record if someone hit you from behind. I don’t mind the sound so much since I usually have music on.

Maybe, but I didn’t get the dash cam option on mine, and it still happens
It’s not a bug. It helps monitor traffic behind you to keep you from pulling out into fast-moving vehicles. But really, it shouldn’t activate unless you’re in reverse. Are you sure you don’t have the 360-degree camera option?
I have a 2025 GLC 300, and it does this too. Not sure this is normal. From what I’ve read online, it may need camera calibration. If you drive slowly in a straight line for about a minute, it stops opening. Still, it’s pretty frustrating since it resets every time the car is turned off.
