Is no rear wiper really a problem?

I’m thinking about getting a used EV6. I currently drive a 2022 Outback and use the rear wiper a lot, especially with the weather we get here in southern Ontario—rain, snow, slush, the works. Would the lack of a rear wiper on the EV6 bother me? How much of an issue is it in real life?

I live in rainy Oregon, and honestly, I haven’t found it to be a big deal.

I was driving back from Bend last weekend in the rain, and the side cameras became almost useless. Do you have any tips to deal with that?

@Darcy
I’m thinking of trying Rain-X on the camera lenses. It might help.

I got my car ceramic coated, and it makes a huge difference. Rain doesn’t stick as much, and I barely even use my windshield wipers on the highway. It just beads right off.

I still have some ceramic coat left. I’ll definitely give it a try. Thanks for the tip .

I live in Michigan. At first, I thought I’d miss the rear wiper, but it hasn’t been as bad as I expected. The rear defrost takes care of most of the snow quickly.

I’ve driven mine for over a year now and done about 32,000 miles, including rain and snow, and I haven’t needed a rear wiper. The only time it’s annoying is after a car wash. Water always drips down and leaves streaks, so I have to go back and clean it again. A wiper would make that easier.

Rain-X has been my solution. I even put it on the backup camera lens, and it works great. Never felt like I needed a rear wiper.

The EV6’s rear window has a steeper slope than cars like the Ioniq 5, so snow doesn’t accumulate much. I haven’t missed having a wiper at all.

It depends on the design. The Ioniq 5 needs a rear wiper because the window is more vertical, but the EV6 doesn’t since the slope makes water run off easily. I’ve never felt like it’s been an issue.

It’s not a dealbreaker for me, but yeah, it can be annoying sometimes. After a car wash, water streaks down the back, and I wish I could clean it from inside the car. Dust from parking garages is also a pain.

I live in west Wales, and we get a lot of rain here. To my surprise, I haven’t had any problems with visibility despite not having a rear wiper.

I’ve never noticed a lack of a rear wiper being an issue. My dog’s nose smudges on the inside of the window, though—that’s another story.

The only time I really miss it is after a car wash or on dusty gravel roads. Other than that, I don’t even think about it.

I’ve had my EV6 for about six weeks, and it’s rained a lot during that time. I haven’t had any visibility issues. When parked, water sits on the window, but once you’re driving, it just slides off.

I used to drive an F-150, so not having a rear wiper doesn’t bother me at all. If you’re used to having one, it might take some time to adjust, but it’s not a priority feature for me.

No issues here. The spoiler and window angle handle most of the work.

I live in The Netherlands, where it rains all year round. The car’s design handles rain well. Most of the water just blows off when driving.

It hasn’t been a problem for me. It would be nice to have, but it’s not a must-have.
