Is it safe to use an extension cord with a car charger?

I have access only to level 1 charging at home, and my car is parked approximately 40 feet away from the nearest electrical outlet. However, my charging cord is not long enough to reach. Is it safe to utilize an extension cord in this scenario? If not, what is the recommended method to extend the charger cable to the required distance? Appreciate any guidance on this matter!

Using an extension cord for Level 1 EV charging is generally not recommended due to safety concerns. The primary issues with using a standard extension cord are the risks of overheating, fire, and electric shock, especially if the cord is not designed for outdoor use or the high current required for EV charging. Therefore consult with an electrician to look for the safety options to charge your car.
For safety, you can choose to invest in a longer Level 1 charging cable specifically designed for EVs for your car model.
