Is going all EV worth it for a household

We’ve had a Kia EV6 for about two and a half years now. Recently, we found a great deal on a low mileage 2019 Kia Niro EV, so we traded in our old Subaru Outback. Now, we’re fully electric. Our solar generation has given us a net negative bill since we got the EV6, so I’m curious if we will have to pay for electricity again. Even if we do, it will still be much less than what we were spending on gas. It feels good to finally ditch the gas station visits.

In the club, we are all family… Do you have an issue with that?

Two EVs with solar equals a lot of savings

Absolutely, especially with gas prices in California

That’s awesome, enjoy the savings with full EV and solar

What kind of deal did you find? Where did you look?

Funny enough, it was at a BMW dealership in our area. They had a 2019 Niro with 40K miles that had been sitting on the lot, so they dropped the price by $2K. My wife found it on Saturday, and we went in to get it on Sunday. It’s the EX premium in great shape.

@Monroe
The blue book value is around $14,500

Same here. We’ve had four EVs, but this is our current lineup:

2024 Mach-E Rally
2024 Equinox EV 3LT AWD

Nice, I really like the design of the Mach-E

I’m just waiting for the apocalypse everyone talks about… what if there’s no electricity?

I’ve been through that here in Florida after the hurricanes this year. Charged my EV to 100% before the storm. I did more driving than usual and was fine for five days without power. I think I ended up with about 30% left.

Meanwhile, my wife was stuck in line for over an hour to fill up her gas-powered Buick.

As the planet warms and storms get worse, what’s with all the electricity worries?

We have solar panels and EVs and save a ton of money. Our utility recently announced a big rate increase, but we are doing just fine. Our electricity and transportation costs are pretty much fixed.

What else can you switch to electric at home? There’s no feeling like telling the gas company to get lost

Heat pumps and induction cooking for the win
