I came across a post saying a dealer is selling a BMW i7 for a huge discount. Is this for real or just a marketing trick?
It seems like nobody wants to buy a $189k car so they’re trying to sell it for $160k. Makes sense, right?

Is a 15% discount really that wild though? $29,000 off sounds shocking at first, but when the starting price is that high, maybe not so much.

Think about the depreciation.

The real issue is that it’s ridiculously overpriced. Can you imagine how these will perform on the used market? In five years, we’ll be able to buy these for $25k.

A car’s value is what someone is willing to pay for it. If no one is buying these, then you aren’t actually saving $30k? I could sell mine for $30k and claim it’s worth $60k by saying it’s a 50% discount.

This thing is so ugly (like most BMWs these days) that I’m surprised they can sell even one.
@Rowan
BMWs from the early 2000s were such classics; they were beautiful cars. I’d be driving one right now if my mechanic hadn’t warned me about maintenance issues.

But the starting price is $110k.

Yeah, but this particular one they’re discussing has all the extra features. The whole article is about the i7 being a slow seller but they focus on just one listing to grab attention.
You could save even more than $29k by not buying this and instead spending on a brand new Kia EV6 or Hyundai Ioniq 5.

But do you really want to drive a Kia or Hyundai?

In many ways, those cars are actually better than this BMW. I’d pick an Ioniq 5 N over any BMW EV, hands down.
@Keegan
The Ioniq 5 N is an amazing EV. I watched Johnny POV’s review and it made me want one.

This is high on my list for my next EV.

I just got a 2024 and love it. But I came from a Honda Civic and a Fiat e500, so take that for what it is.

Agreed. No question BMW is better to drive, but the two Korean brands offer better value for your money. I’d gladly pay $5k to $10k more for a BMW, but now I feel less justified doing that.
For $50K less, you could get a fully loaded Lucid Air GT instead. And you wouldn’t have to deal with BMW dealer nonsense.

And you won’t have to look at an i7 either.

I’ve owned several BMWs. What dealer nonsense are you talking about? I’ve never had any issues.
