I'm a bit puzzled about the wall chargers at my apartment and could use some guidance

Here is the situation: I recently discovered that my apartment complex has Tesla chargers installed in the parking area. Although I don’t currently own a car, I’ve been thinking about getting an electric vehicle (EV) as my first car. Having these chargers available at my apartment makes the prospect of owning an EV more appealing.

I contacted the apartment manager to get more information, but they didn’t have many details. They mentioned:

  • The parking fee is $275 per month, regardless of whether you have an ICE or an EV.
  • The chargers are linked to Seattle City Light, so they aren’t sure about the specific rates.
  • These chargers can be used by any EV, not just Teslas, as there are other non-Tesla EV owners in the building.

From what I gathered, it seems I’d be paying the same $275 parking fee as any other car owner, and if I get an EV, I’d only need to cover the cost of charging based on Seattle City Light’s rates. Is that correct?

I’m not very familiar with these chargers, so I have a few questions:

  1. Will the electricity rate for charging be the same as what I pay for my apartment’s electricity usage through Seattle City Light?
  2. Are these wall chargers considered the slowest type available?
  3. How long would it typically take to charge an EV like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6 from 10% to 80%?
  4. Since I don’t drive much, just on weekends and for leisure, I’m okay with a longer charging time. Would using these chargers be cost-effective compared to owning an ICE car?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated as I decide whether to go for an EV or an ICE car. Thanks!

Howdy mates,If possible, test the charger in another outlet to rule out problems with the original one.
Plug a different device into the charger to check if it charges properly. If the whole apartment is experiencing power problems, it could be a broader electrical issue.

Try out echPowerUp Forum. All I would do is question the person who parks or charges there. They ought to know, or could tell you.

Indeed. There are L2 chargers that cost as much as gas. There are several that are free. If you are not able to catch them, leave a note with your phone number on it. They will undoubtedly be pleased to respond to inquiries.
