I ma just concerned if there could be any reason ever that an electric car would ever be offered with a stick.
Customer’s nostalgia-based pastime. Rethinking things from the ground up is similar to adding a stick shift to a toaster oven.
I am also among the people who prefer manual transmissions. However, unlike internal combustion engines, electric motors can produce torque over a huge range of RPMs, so they don’t need a transmission. This explains why there is not EV with a stick till today and I think none will ever have one even in the future.
In my thinking, EVs are even better. It is kind of like driving a manual in low gear right at your power band except that you don’t redline or hit a rev limiter or need to shift has the pros of a manual without drawbacks. In addition, the regen is like strong engine braking, so it.
Your question is just null because EVs generally do not require transmissions. This shows that you have limited knowledge of cars.
An EV usually does not require a multi-speed transmission from a mechanical or engineering standpoint. In actuality, it exacerbates the EV.
Some manufacturers have applied software to their EVs to fake the feeling of a stick shift for stick shift enthusiasts who like to play pretend. Of course, the manufacturer is Hyundai.
In my 38 years of driving, I have only managed to drive manual automobiles only except one year. I hate cars with automatic transmissions.
I received an electric recently. It has been actually amazing. One gear works amazingly well.
I think you are behind the news because currently there are already EV makers simulating manual transmissions in their vehicles just for boomers like you OP.
But for a fact, I don’t expect them to be available for long since they are a purely aesthetic choice that wastes energy and adds to wear on the vehicle.
I am completely opposite of you because after diving for 20 years on the FDR I don’t even ever want to look at a manual transmission again.
One of the reasons why EVs are unique is the fact that they don’t need transmissions. They only have fewer moving parts therefore meaning fewer mechanical things to break down.
I also like manual transmission and currently, I don’t miss it. The one-pedal drive feels oddly familiar and like I have a similar connection with the drive train as I do with manual transmission. Every stop is like downshifting using regen.
