How Much Are You Paying for Car Insurance… California Drivers?

Just wondering what everyone is paying for car insurance, especially in California. I recently leased an EV6, and I feel like my Geico rate is way too high. Wanted to see what others are paying so I can make a better choice next time.

I checked out Liberty Mutual, and even with all my discounts (multi-policy, multi-car, etc.), they still wanted about $3600 per year. Tried a few quote comparison sites too, but nothing looked great.

Ended up going with Costco’s insurance discount and got around $950 for six months.

I’ve had my license for over 30 years with a clean record. If anyone has found a better deal, I’d love to hear about it.

I’m in California with a clean driving record. I have a 2024 GT-Line and pay $103 a month with State Farm.

Thanks for sharing. I’m paying four times that… might have made a bad choice. Feels like the agent pushed me into a more expensive policy.

@Jules
Do you know exactly what your policy covers? Have you checked your declaration page?

It’s my first time dealing with this, so I wasn’t really sure about the coverage options.

@Jules
Don’t cancel your coverage right away, but definitely shop around. State Farm was the cheapest for me, but some others were close. Liberty Mutual, though, was way too high.

I’m in Alaska and have been with Geico since I was 16. They tried to bump my rate from $90 to $120, then up to $195 a month.

I switched to Progressive, kept the same coverage, and now pay $105 a month.

It actually cost me less to insure than my Tesla Model 3.

$1170 per year in Kansas, but I’ve been driving for a while and get a few discounts.

Adding our 2022 EV6 GT-Line increased our policy by about $65 per month. We’re in Washington, though, not California.

It would be helpful to see the actual numbers for the EV6 alone.

@Lex
Not sure how fair a comparison that would be. Our total is around $175 per month for two drivers and three cars (two of them are over 15 years old). Adding an Ariya would have increased it by $110 per month, and a Mustang Mach-E GT Performance would have added $93 per month. If you’re already spending $30k on a car, an extra $30-40 on insurance might not be your biggest worry.

I’m in New Jersey and got my EV6 in October. I’m with Plymouth Rock, and my rate jumped from $170 to $250 in December. Checked other companies, but they’re just as pricey or worse.

North Carolina here. I have a 2023 GT-Line lease with full coverage and a $100 deductible. I’m paying $1100 per year with USAA.

Depends on what you need. The absolute cheapest I found was $85 per month, but I wanted comprehensive and collision ($500 each) plus uninsured motorist, so I pay $115 per month in Ohio.

Southern California, Geico, 2022 GT Line—$1400 per year.

Wow, I’m paying that in three months… really feel like I got scammed into a more expensive policy.

Could be, but there are a ton of factors involved—zip code, driving history, multi-car discounts, etc. If you’re leasing, they also factor in the full price of a new car, while mine is only worth about $30k now.

Full coverage in Arizona. My rate didn’t change when I switched from a 2017 VW GTI to my 2023 EV6 GT. Also have a 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport, plus homeowners and personal articles coverage. Paying $250 per month with State Farm. People say State Farm is expensive, but they’ve been cheaper than most for me.
