How long does it take to charge from 10% to 100%? With 800v, I know it takes around 18 mins for 20% to 80%

So that you know, the last 20% will take a longer time than even the first 80%. You are probably looking for more than 40 minutes if you want to get to 100%. This is because charging has to slow down at the top end (above 80) to balance the cells.

approximately 40 min IIRC from the time or two I have done it. But as you can notice, it is fast enough to still beat a lot of other cars but slow enough to not be worth it.

I agree with you that the last 20% adds about 20 minutes to a DCFC.

The 18-minute figure is under perfect conditions with a charger which can provide around 250kw, the battery being the right temp, there being no hiccups in the negotiation with the charger, etc. In reality, it is a few minutes longer than that.

The time may depend on other factors involved. That last 20% can take around 20 to 30 minutes.

That should not be what you are going for on a road trip. I might top off overnight at home but plan for an 80% range between stops if possible.

From the guys who have commented, they have answered your original question or a part of it. In this comment, I am just trying to explain why it slows down and why we use the 10-80 time instead of 0-100.

Charging an EV is more like getting several people to their assigned seats in a movie theatre than it is filling a container with liquid.

Remember that initially, there is no one in the theatre. People trickle in slowly as the early arrivers get their way before start time, but have no problem getting to their seats. After some time, more people come in at a time but the people that do come in can go and find their seats easily as the theatre is not full yet.

But as it starts to fill, (around the 80% mark) the process will start to slow down, because people have to move carefully past each other to get to their assigned seats. Some others are also getting up to get popcorn/drinks at the last minute, adding to the congestion. Until everyone is fully seated and prepared to watch, everyone attempts to avoid running into one another and passing by one another.

Don’t think of trying because It will be 40-50 minutes. Not worth your time. Are you planning on buying an EV without home charging? If yes, then trash your idea.

It is something I have never tried in a very long time. In my view, you are squandering important time by charging beyond 80%. Depending on how low it is, it may take as little as 20 to 25 minutes to reach 80, but whatever. Proceed with your day. It will require over 20 minutes to charge to β€œfull”. What is the additional 20% of the range that this entails? little, just a charge at a later time

I wanted to see how much I could with the free 30-minute charge offered by Electrify America. I usually make my road trip stops within thirty minutes. Trying to stay longer with the kids. Our choices are limited to remote areas with few charging points.

Nevertheless, it will take longer than 30mins to super charge from 10-100.
