For me a new car should last at least a decade (emotionally at least) anything after that is gravy.
My Prius lasted 16 years before the hybrid battery gave up the ghost. I was going to replace it with something reconditioned until someone also stole my Catalytic converter effectively totaling the car. (Wasn’t gonna spend more than the car was worth to get running something that was readily stolen again.)
Other than having my Cat stolen I was satisfied with how long that car lasted. I felt it but for the Cat I could still be driving it today.
Same as you. I keep cars 3-5 years but I plan on keeping this one for longer. I got 8 year extended warranty with the intention of keeping it at least that long.
Yeah, even with how nice the current i5 model is, by the time my 3 year lease is up, the dealer will be throwing amazing offers at me to come down and get the newer/better version. Things move quickly now in tech and a 3 year refresh can add a lot of ‘quality of life’ features that weren’t available when you purchased your car. I’ve just accepted the fact I’ll always have a new car I’m paying monthly for and never have to worry about a repair. It’s nice to try the latest models every 3 years. I do wish I could settle and not want a new car, but I’ve just always had to have the latest tech.
My family averages 25 years but I’ll be happy to make 10-15 accounting for changes in technology. Happy to get started on that ASAP if only the 2025 would come out already.
This car is my first lease, because I’m assuming that the technology will advance rapidly enough for me to want the latest one after 3 years, and also to allow me to be open to choosing something else if a really compelling alternative comes to market.
My 3y lease expires in May, and I’ve already started arranging for a buyout, so I will definitely keep mine… although I’m going to drive it less as it will get passed on to my partner to replace his ICE rustbucket. My own long term plans are for an MG Cyberster, most likely with a BMW i4 to bridge the coming year or two. We’re definitely staying electric.
I keep my car a long time. The Toyota Prius I sold before buying this was almost 13 or 14 years old. So, hopefully, at least least 10 years on this one. I love it.

If a Prius can last at least 15 years, the Ioniq 5 definitely can. There isn’t a whole lot of moving parts compared to an ICE car so reliability should be really good.
I average about 8-10 years of life (around the 200,000 mile mark) before I get to the point I’m tired of fixing it up again… I guess I’ll see how long this thing stays together…
Until the wheels come off. Already have 70k miles in a little under 3 years and by the time the loan is paid off will be 150k miles, don’t see a point in selling after that so will just keep driving until it dies.
I plan on keeping it until it doesn’t work anymore. But, I will admit that seeing the lease deals out there make it enticing to lease a newer one due to the depreciation of my 22. Also, every now and then I look at hybrids and think those are more efficient than my car
I just got mine last week (thank god too, cause my wife went into labour this week - and we needed a second vehicle) and I absolutely love it.
Minor issues with a couple random things about the car, but nothing that’s a deal breaker. I can see myself running it for at least 15 years if not more, and if it will work that long.
