How can I open the hood of an EQE?

I need to top up my coolant, but Mercedes has locked owners out of the hood. Can anyone guide me on how to access the latch?

This is an OEM-only service. You could void your warranty if you try to open it yourself.

It’s not ‘locked out’. There’s a plastic flap cover where the hood release is. If there’s a screw (though there likely isn’t), unscrew it and pull the hood release. Be careful, as there are no hood struts to hold it up—don’t let it drop on you.

I found it and opened the latch. But there was a wire tied to a very small rod, and now I’m worried that if I pull too hard, I might break something else.

Can you share a picture of what you see? In my EQE, it’s just a black plastic flap, and you pull the red lever IMG-3713 hosted at ImgBB — ImgBB

Thanks, this will be helpful for cleaning out leaves and stuff in autumn! :slight_smile:

The coolant system should be sealed. If you’re low on coolant, you should head to your dealer to get the vehicle checked out.

I keep getting notifications saying my coolant level is low, and I’ve only driven 2k miles in the car.

@Orion
Yep, you should go to the dealership right away. Coolant shouldn’t be leaking from anywhere in Valero motors.

@Orion
Definitely go to the dealership. Something’s wrong.

You’ll have to take it to an MB Service center. You can only top up the wiper fluid yourself through the side port.

There are a couple of plastic clips on the cover in the footwell. Use a trim removal tool to take them out. Once the clips are removed, you can open it after pressing a couple of molded latches. Pull the lever and the hood should open.

This system is not intended to be user-serviced.

Take it to the dealer, mate. You’re spending 40k+ on a car; it’s best to take care of it properly.

There was a similar coolant problem with the EQC, caused by a faulty batch of coolant bottle caps.
