First BMW. First Charge. Last Tesla

I drive an i4 and a MY and honestly, it’s a toss-up in my opinion. Tesla is faster. i4 handles better, Tesla auto drive is better, i4 grille is best on market. That front end is sick imo Tesla is cheaper, Tesla is the iPhone of cars. i4 is about classic German engineering. Considering it’s electric but feels like a BMW…

@Branley
Well said, but I don’t feel that my Tesla model three performance felt much faster than my BMW I4M 50

I got a 40 so… respect. Actually have not driven a 50… Don’t do this to me :joy::joy::joy::thinking::thinking:

@Branley
Can the i4 use NACS chargers? I road trip to the beach a lot and there are only NACS chargers there. I’d replace my myP, but only with something that can use those chargers. Also, with 2 kids, I don’t mind that the Tesla interior is crap. The kids wreck it anyway, and the big screen playing Disney/Netflix is kinda awesome.

@Darwin
Not yet NACS compatible until sometime next year.

Grille looks better than the pre-LCI but they should have made it matte.

My salesperson at the dealership got me the official BMW weather mats at no extra charge. The M50 is too powerful and fun.

Titles should read LONG GONE ARE THE DAYS OF MAINTENANCE-FREE OWNERSHIP :laughing:

Yes you are wrong. You will still learn what a good car a New model 3 is. I will keep a watchful eye for your next post asking why BMW Why don’t we have nice tech and etc like Tesla

Yeah, but Elon is such a douche. Can he just leave already? I don’t think his influence helps anymore. The last 2 Tesla designs have been a big flop and most of the tech he talks about coming soon is vaporware.

@Darwin
Tell me are you using Tesla superchargers? When you plug in next time you do realize you are at his mercy and you need to thank him

The amazing Tesla tech - auto wipers have sucked so hard and still suck. I keep getting massive phantom braking on the motorway. Auto lights and especially high beam are just plain worse than my 3 GT. So yeah, Tesla fanboys and their dumb shit. My model 3 is definitely the worst car in terms of build quality, support, and comfort I have owned. The big screen is fun at first but navigation is weird. Penalties for reckless driving with auto pilot on (reckless is me taking control for an overtake). Range is far below EPA and paint quality, panel insulation is just plain bad. I had a honeymoon period for about a year but 45k miles later it is just not a good car especially chassis balance.

@Micah
The cameras are a big game changer. It was weird driving a very advanced and luxurious EV like the i4 with no blind spot cameras, even though those exist on other less luxurious vehicles (like the Hyundai Tucson). I think adding blind spot monitor cameras could sway more Tesla drivers away from Tesla and toward BMW. I haven’t experienced phantom braking in forever, even in a 3.2k miles round trip. But the auto wipers do suck and cause unneeded wear & tear on the wipers and windshield due to dry wiping.

@WILLIAMS
What is phantom breaking? My F15 once years ago slammed on the brakes for a plastic bag that drifted across the road

In Teslas, autopilot would sometimes brake randomly on the interstate due to shadows. That happened to me once or twice in almost two years of ownership, and it hasn’t happened to me at all this year.

@WILLIAMS
Strange, never experienced this

According to early model 3 owners, that used to happen a lot right after autopilot switched to vision-only in 2021. Autopilot got better over time. I got my car in late 2022, so I only experienced phantom braking in 2023, but not this year.

@WILLIAMS
Maybe my 21 LRM3 never experienced this phantom breaking. Must be the first gen Teslas

@WILLIAMS
Well I and at least 3 people I know experience it on a regular basis, 4 different cars - M3LR, M3 Highland LR, MY, and one MX. Also, I’ve had 360 cameras on my BMWs since 2012. Blind spot detection in the mirrors as it should be is the way to go.

@Micah
I didn’t find the 360 camera functionality to be too useful. I’d like for a blind spot camera to appear in the dash behind the steering wheel, just like it was implemented in the Hyundai Tucson.
