Do you guys have issues with no rear wiper too

I just got my new car and already the rear window is a magnet for dirt. Just one hour of driving this morning and I couldn’t see anything out of it.

So you really can’t see, huh

No worries, the car is designed with a rear-facing camera, but guess what That gets dirty too.

Some car brands have been hiding their cameras cleverly for ages. It’s strange that not all cameras are protected from dirt or have a cleaning feature. It seems like an obvious fix to me.

@Nari
Is it just the VW Golf that does that, or are there others

The Passat, Tiguan, and A6 also have it, and even some Porsche models. Other brands like Mercedes and BMW have similar solutions. It’s not just VW.

@Nari
I suspect VW might hold patents for the camera protection methods, which could explain why not all cars have this.

Mercedes does something similar too.

They might have paid to use the technology if it’s patented.

Sure, but other automakers could just design a little protective nook. It doesn’t need to be behind the emblem.

@Nari
Subaru has a clever solution where the rear camera is cleaned whenever you use the rear windshield washer.

Design plays a big part. My EV6 doesn’t have a wiper but it doesn’t gather nearly as much dirt as other models I’ve seen.

Why do hatches have wipers but sedans usually don’t Is there an aerodynamic reason Hyundai might have discovered something new

A local group member tried a DIY fix with a plastic bracket to improve airflow. It really helped clear the window.

@Slate
Could you post a photo of that Sounds like a smart solution

I’d like to see that too. Sounds useful.

I was worried about my EV6 getting dirty, but it stays quite clean. The new models even come with wipers now. Haha.

There’s a spoiler that helps keep dirt off the window, though I’ve noticed everything collects under it after washing the car.

@Cameron
Exactly, it all starts under the rear spoiler and just gets worse. I find the rear camera is the easiest solution.

But as someone older, I find it hard to focus on those tiny camera images.
