Can you stop mirrors from moving when reversing?

My car’s mirrors adjust automatically when I reverse. It’s fine when the camera is clear, but during winter, it often shows the wrong view because the camera gets dirty. I get why this feature exists, but it doesn’t work for me. Can I turn it off?

Try adjusting the side mirror selector on the driver’s door. Put it in the middle position.

That worked perfectly. Thanks a lot.

This was driving me crazy too! It randomly stopped, and I was relieved but never knew why. Now I do. Thanks for explaining this.

Honestly, I think this is one of the most confusing design choices any car company has made.

@Rin
I don’t agree. I had this feature in my 2004 BMW, and it saved me many times when parallel parking. It’s great that this car has it too. Judging by how many cars have scratched wheels, more people could use it.

@Heath
I’m not saying it’s useless, just that the way it’s set up isn’t obvious. It shouldn’t require reading the manual to figure out something so basic.

It’s explained in the owner’s manual, and you can search for it there.

People can barely follow IKEA instructions. Do you think most of them are reading a car manual?

Maybe they should stick with an old Pontiac Sunfire instead.

Imagine a car manual with only pictures like IKEA’s instructions. That would be hilarious.

@Parker
Icons explaining icons? Sounds like a nightmare. I’ll pass on that.

@Heath
I hate this feature on both my Discovery 3 and my partner’s car. I need to see the mirrors normally when reversing.

@Rin
It’s not just a Kia thing. This is a standard feature in many cars, and it’s explained in the manual.

@Rin
Most cars with memory settings do this. If you move the selector to the left, the left mirror tilts. Same for the right.

Only cars with memory seats and mirrors have this feature. If your car doesn’t have memory functions, the mirrors won’t tilt.

@Montana
That’s because in the GT, what’s behind you doesn’t matter.

@Rin
I find it super helpful for backing into marked spaces or using mirrors for visibility.

@Rin
Once you’re used to it, it’s really useful. I set the mirrors for driving at a normal height and use the tilt for precise parking.

That makes sense if you park along curbs a lot. I live in a rural area, so it’s not as helpful for me.

@Valentine
It’s still handy in the countryside. It helps avoid obstacles like rocks or logs when parking at campgrounds.
