Will the new facelift model still have ICCU issues…?

Does anyone actually know if the new facelift models will still have ICCU issues?

The dealers I spoke to swear it’s been fixed, but let’s be real… they just want to sell cars.

Dealers will say anything to make a sale. Truth is, nobody knows for sure yet. Time will tell.

Maybe, maybe not. If I were buying new, I’d just get the $400 Ohmmu battery for peace of mind.

The 12V battery and ICCU are separate. Getting an Ohmmu 12V won’t fix ICCU issues.

Also, there was a teardown of Ohmmu batteries a while back, and the build quality was really bad. You’re better off with an AGM battery from Costco.

@Arley
Lithium batteries handle full discharges better, and since the ICCU charges that way, at least it removes the risk of the 12V dying from wear and tear.

@Arley
Not sure if battery choice affects ICCU lifespan. Haven’t heard of ICCU failures with Ohmmu, but could be possible.

@Arley
The complaints about Ohmmu quality are outdated. They fixed those issues a while back.

Mine has been rock solid for almost two years, and no orange dash lights. It’s handled two brutal Canadian winters without a hitch.

@Wren
How much do these batteries cost? Never heard of this brand before. Then again, I live under a rock, so no surprise I’m late to this.

I got one last year (2023 GT USA) and haven’t had any issues so far. Fingers crossed.

I also use an app to monitor my 12V battery, and everything looks fine. I think I’m at 78 recharge cycles now.

Just saw a post from someone with a brand-new 2025 Ioniq 5 (NACS port) whose ICCU died after just a few weeks.

This car had the updated ICCU part number too, so it’s not looking great. Might be a one-off case, but still something to keep in mind for anyone eyeing the 2025 EV6.

@Wren
If even the newest ICCUs are failing, why is Hyundai/Kia bothering with recalls at this point? Maybe they should just fix the ones that actually break.

12V battery failures happen with every car brand. It’s just one of those things carried over from gas cars.

12V and ICCU are different parts. They’re related, but you can have an ICCU failure with a healthy 12V, or a dead 12V with a working ICCU.

@Arley
Yeah, but no car brand is free from these kinds of issues.

We don’t have a clear answer yet, but I doubt this issue is completely gone. 12V system problems have been common across all EV brands. The good news is they’re still way ahead in other areas…
