Took my EV6 in for its first maintenance, just a simple tire rotation ($20). Also had them do the SC327 ICCU inspection recall. When it was time to check out, they said it would be $40. I asked why, and they said they did an EV maintenance service, which I didn’t ask for. I told them I didn’t book that service, and they only charged me for the tire rotation. I wasn’t angry, just annoyed. I decided to check their website and saw no mention of the so-called ‘EV maintenance’. The only thing that looked close was their minimum recommended package, which includes things like tire rotation, brake inspections, and a car wash. Feels like they’re trying to make extra money by confusing customers, which is frustrating.
I change the air filter before any appointment and leave the box in the frunk where they can’t miss it. They still try to sell me one every time.

They never fail to recommend it.
My EV6 is in for the recall and regular maintenance. They quoted $86 for a tire rotation and a few checks. If I want charge port cleaning, they said it would be $196!

What is ‘charge port cleaning’? Sounds like a total scam.
@Keller
All dealerships do this, it’s just more obvious with EVs. In the EV6 manual, the only thing they have to do is change the cabin air filter. They’d probably try to charge $60 for a $10 part.
@Keller
Good to know these extras. I’ll know to avoid them when I take mine in.

What exactly are these ‘checks’? Routine stuff should be free.
When I had the SC327 service done, the service advisor called to say the cabin filter needed replacing (I had already done it) and that I urgently needed new wiper blades. The wipers are still fine, no issues. They also did a complimentary inspection, which somehow showed my exhaust and fuel systems were fine. Ridiculous.
@Jules
Good thing you didn’t need to replace the filter for the blinker fluid.
The dealership where I bought my EV6 tried to sell me a service package that included oil and transmission fluid changes. The salesman said it with a straight face, but I couldn’t stop laughing.
Most dealers don’t know what they’re doing. When I told them the model, the counter guy said they were going to change the oil. Then they recommended a brake fluid flush, which I’ve read is unnecessary for EVs. They also quoted me $80 for a filter I didn’t need. I just had the recall fix done and left.
I’m not sure what’s worse, a dealer who doesn’t reach out for recalls or the ones that nickel and dime you. I’ve noticed my local dealer seems to ignore EVs because they know they won’t make much money on them. I might try the idea of leaving the cabin filter in plain view next time.
@Eli
Try Winn KIA in Fremont. No issues with appointments there, unlike the local dealer who told me it’d be 2.5 months before they could see me for a recall.

That’s a good idea. I’ll check them out. I had a bad experience with my current dealership, so I’m open to switching. Did you buy/lease from them?
@Eli
I leased there, and the sales experience was good. I haven’t dealt with Steven’s Creek in years after some shady dealings back then.
@Eli
Stevens Creek is terrible. Try Capital instead. Winn is okay, but Capital is a bit better.
The dealership tried to tell me that Kia recommended changing the blue coolant because it causes crystals. They quoted over $500 for this at my 28k service. After reviewing the manual, I saw the change wasn’t recommended until 112k km. I showed them the coolant was pink, but they still tried to push it. I left and will never return.
@Toryn
That’s a wild experience. I totally support you for walking away from that dealership.
$20 for a tire rotation? My dealership wanted $149, so I declined. They also keep sending me texts about oil changes, even though I don’t need one.
