My city’s roads have a lot of potholes. If you were buying a new EV mainly for comfort, which would you recommend? Bonus points for ones under $50k.
Rolls Royce Spectre
It’s a bit out of your price range though
The Audi Q8 e-tron is super comfortable. It’s over your $50k budget new, but you can find used ones with low miles for much less.
I’m surprised no one’s mentioned the Nissan Ariya here. I have the top trim with NAPA and it’s the most comfortable ride I’ve had (I’ve owned BMWs, Lexus, Acura, Tesla, etc). Year-old lease returns of the top trims are under $30k. I got mine AWD Platinum ± for $26k used with 12k miles.
There are tons of lightly used EVs under 50k… The Ioniq 5 is pretty comfy too.

I bought an EV6 because my wife and I both found it more comfortable than the Ioniq 5. You should test drive both. I also considered an Audi Q4, which was comfy, but the EV6 has a custom BEV platform.
Volvo EX40, EX30 (but those are still waiting for delivery), ID.4, Ioniq 5 and 6, Chevy Equinox/Honda Prologue, and Blazer, Caddy Lyriq. The type of wheels and tyre sizes will matter most. Go for the smallest wheels and largest tyres.
@Mackenzie
I have an EX30 with 19” wheels and it’s really comfy. Even with the 19s, the ride’s smooth. It even has a bit of that hot hatch feeling, which I love since I had a Golf before.

I drove an EX30 on 19s, and it was nice. I hope the 20s on the one I ordered don’t affect the comfort too much.

I have the ultra EX30 with 20” wheels. Comfort is fine, but I’m switching to 18” winter wheels to see if the ride gets even better. It’s a fun car to drive, though .
Honda Prologue. The Elite trim isn’t as smooth as the Touring, but it’s still great.
I have a 2023 VW ID.4 with 20” wheels. The ride is smooth, and the massaging seats are very comfortable, whether for short trips or long drives. I used to own a 2022 Kia Niro EX EV with 18” wheels. The Niro was also comfortable, but I think the ID.4 is even better.
The first-gen Hyundai Kona EV rides nicely (I own one). I’ve heard the VW ID.4 is also really cushy.
Etron suv
Mustang Mach-E with the base suspension and the smallest wheels.
I switched from an ID4 to a Ford Lightning, and the Lightning’s suspension feels way better in comparison.
Peugeot e2008 is super comfy .
Cadillac Lyriq is super cushy, looks great, and has a beautiful interior. It starts at $58k, which is slightly over your budget, but you might get a good deal with federal rebates. The Genesis Electrified GV70 starts at $66k and is also very cushy. Kia EV9 starts at $55k and is big and soft. The Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6 are under $50k. I’d avoid the BMW i4, Polestar 2, and Ford Mustang Mach-E if you prefer a softer ride. Teslas tend to have firmer rides, but the new Model 3 is better.
I watched a YouTube video of a cannonball race from Seattle to Boston featuring the Model 3, Model S Plaid, Ioniq 6, Lucid Air, Taycan, EQS, and Genesis G80, BMW i7. The Mercedes EQS team kept mentioning how comfortable their car was.
My bz4x is so comfy. I can drive it all day. The Lyriq is also supposed to be really nice.
