I just got a new EV6 (it’s coming today) and I’m thinking about what home charger to buy. I’m looking for something portable too so I can use it when I’m on a road trip. Any suggestions?
Emporia is great for a Level 2 home charger.

I have Emporia too. It’s been great so far.

Same here. Check with your local power company. I got a rebate that covered the whole cost just a few months ago. Sold charger.
@Leith
I’m still waiting for my Emporia to be delivered.
@Leith
Lucky you. My power supplier, Peco, gave me only $50 for buying an EV, but nothing for the Emporia.
I’d suggest asking about this over at this forum, they seem to have more answers.

Yep, this forum is much better for these types of questions.
I used a Level 1 charger for months to recharge my 40-mile daily commute in summer, over a 12-hour charging window.
Then I had a Level 2 installed at home and it’s been so much easier and faster. I’d also suggest learning a bit about electrical systems, like wire gauges and volts/watts. I used a basic extension cord with the Level 1 charger, and it almost melted. Once I switched to the right gauge cord, it worked fine, but the outlet started to overheat. EVs need different power setups than your average household items. Stay safe and enjoy your car!
For travel, you’ll mostly be using a Level 1 charger that plugs into standard 110v outlets. It charges about 1% per hour (2% if you’re lucky with a 20A circuit). I keep one from Amazon (Keruida) in the frunk for emergencies or when visiting friends.
For home, you’ll want a Level 2 charger that needs a 220v 50-60A circuit. It charges about 10% per hour. I use a Grizzl-E, but other brands work too. You don’t really need a ‘smart’ charger as you can control charging from the car.
@Justice
I have a Grizzl-E and it’s solid.
I second the Grizzl-E. It’s worked well for me too.

Grizzl-E’s simple chargers are great. I’ve got a Duo. I haven’t heard anyone say good things about their smart chargers though.
@Justice
Having a travel charger that supports both Level 1 & 2 is useful. You can find NEMA 14-50 outlets in random places, and you can take advantage of them.
I use my old Tesla mobile charger with an adapter.
@Justice
This is important: most portable chargers are fine for plug-in hybrids with small batteries, but very slow for an EV6.
I tried one recommended online, but it kept having issues with the power supply (maybe the extension cord or outlet?). The one that came with our Honda Clarity has been much more reliable.
For fast, reliable home charging, the Chargepoint I got with a subsidy from my electric company works perfectly.
@Justice
Why do you say you can only get a Level 1 charger for travel?

I was talking about portable chargers for travel. I know there are charging stations, but do they even make portable Level 2 chargers?
@Justice
Yes, many portable chargers support Level 2, but usually only 7kW.
Emporia hardwired is great if you own the car and the house, but plug-in versions are rented or leased.

This is the right way. Just check the NEC version you follow. Emporia needs to fix this.
