If you’re talking 2025 models, the range on the Taycan is quite a bit better.

I think I’ll be buying a 23-24 model. As here in Norway a car loses an insane amount the first year. Especially the Taycan.
@Reese
I’m in the same boat here in Belgium, 23/24 year model is around 65-95k depending on spec (4s to a turbo). The 25 YM is still too fresh to have lost such an amount of value, in 2027 that’d be a different story ofc
Test drove both ended up going with Taycan. Better range, nicer car, didn’t like the weird fake engine noise of the i4M50. More expensive tho.
We borrowed both overnight and I took both down from Carmel to Big Sur and the BMW was incredible but the Taycan was BEGGING for more.
Plus taycan was larger interior.
The Taycan handles way better than the i4 but it’s also double the price.

A 23-24mod goes for the same as a used i4 here in Norway for some reason. The Taycan looses an insane amount the first year.
@Reese
I’d definitely go Taycan if price is similar. The handling on the Taycan is insane. Technology is a bit lacking but has CarPlay / Android Auto, and touchscreen climate is annoying, but easy to forget about that stuff since drive is so enjoyable.
@Bailey
The price is around 4.500 in difference, so basically nothing. I was expecting the Taycan to handle better. I’ve driven the i4, but it’s a bit harder to test drive a Porche around here (no dealership).
Drove both and the taycan drives a lot better. The BMW was closer to my Volvo with sporty stuff.
I would try the e-tron gt if I were you
When my wife and I were car shopping, we test drove both. This time was my wife’s turn to choose the car (I chose last time we bought in 2019 and we bought a Tesla Model X). I was really excited to test-drive the BMW and was talking up BMW in general because I’ve always liked driving them and was glad they finally had a viable electric option. When we drove the i4, I was really disappointed to the point of being embarrassed for talking them up so much. My wife ended up choosing the Taycan, and I am really glad she did.
Perhaps the I5 Touring ? Newer design and a smooth long body line. Rear seat comfort is better on the I5 Touring
I chose the Taycan because I loved driving it. I rented both on Turo along with a few other vehicles I was considering. The Taycan was the only one I kept thinking about. I think that’s what the decision should come down to, which do YOU prefer driving? I saw your comment about not being able to get your hands on one in your area, might be worth taking a trip to rent one for a day or a few.
The one other thing about the Taycan, it is a beautiful car. I thought so when I bought it, but I was not prepared for the head turning reactions it gets everywhere, you’d swear it was a super car with the way people act. I guess I’m not complaining about that and it’s a lot of fun to have people strike up conversations and ask about it, but this is not something I ever experienced with any car I’ve ever owned before.
Had the i4 M50 for two years, then switched to a Taycan RWD earlier this year and switched again to a 4s Cross Turismo a month ago. The i4 is a better EV in terms of tech, reliability and efficiency/range. Also straight line performance, with 800nm of torque it’s fast. The Taycan with air suspension is on another planet compared to the i4 in terms of ride quality and driving dynamics, the things a Taycan can do in corners is highly impressive, it’s a Porsche after all. The handling i4 m50 doesn’t feel like a BMW, but the Taycan does feel like a Porsche. If you go for a Taycan make sure it has Porsche approved warranty, because you’ll need that. If you’re keeping the car long term, it’s €3000 to add two years of warranty. Furthermore, really spend time understanding the options on the Taycan, things like rear axle steering and PDCC Sport and PTV Plus do make a big (positive) impact on the handling. If you have any questions about the two, or what options to consider, let me know.
Porsche in general is just one step ahead in terms of quality. Had many BMW and Mercs myself but hey, the quality of a Porsche is just a whole other level.
Just one silly question…are you vision impaired?
