Should I charge my Taycan to 80 or 100%?

Do you charge your Taycan to 100% or just stick to 80% to help save the battery? I’m curious about what others do. Thanks!

I usually charge to 85% but will go to 100% for longer trips.

I keep it at 85% most of the time, and go to 100% when I’m heading out on a longer journey.

I charge to 80%.

I charge to 80% daily.

Porsche has a fire risk recall advising 27,527 Taycan owners to limit charging to 80% until a software update in Q1 2025. They are using over-the-air access to monitor battery data and spot future issues.

I charge to 70-80% and drive until it hits 20%. If I’m on a long trip, I charge to 100% and then DC charge to 80% as needed to reach my destination with about 20% left.

What’s your reasoning for waiting until 20% to charge again?

@Zinnia
No special reason. I just don’t see the need to recharge constantly. When I need it, I’ll do it. It charges from 20 to 80 overnight or while I’m at work. I try not to go below 20% since that starts limiting some functions. If I need a quick charge at 21%, I’ll stop for 5 minutes at one of the many 300-400 kW chargers around in Europe.

@Foster
There aren’t really 400 kW chargers around. Plus, you can’t charge at 300 kW for more than 5 minutes.

I don’t charge at 300 kW. I have J1. But there are plenty of chargers labeled 300+; 300, 350, 400… I’m in Eastern Europe and have at least 12 300+kW chargers within 10 km.

@Foster
I’m also in Eastern Europe - Bulgaria. We only have chargers up to 300 kW. What about you?

I’m in Croatia. Lots of great chargers here.

Awesome! I’ve been there before and loved it. I’ll bring my Taycan next time.

Thanks! I’d love to meet up with fellow Porsche fans.

The general idea is to charge to whatever you need for daily driving. If you want to go to the extreme, aim for around 50%, but that’s not realistic for most people. I usually keep mine at 80%, sometimes less since I don’t always plug it in. That covers my daily needs and any spontaneous trips. For longer planned journeys, I just charge to 100% ahead of time.

@NicholasAdams
Based on advice from TaycanForums.com, I keep my battery at 50% most of the time. My daily commute uses about 10% battery, so I set my weekday timer to reach 55% before I head out. If I have a lot of driving to do, I set the timer to target 65-85% the night before.

If you need to charge to 100% for your daily driving, then do it. The issue isn’t charging to 100% but letting the car sit unused for a long time at that level. If you don’t need the full range daily, it’s better for battery health to charge to around 80%. But it’s also not great for the battery to stay below 20% for long periods.

I charge from below 20% to 85% and go to 100% for long trips. Just be careful of outside temperatures. My car broke down in France last summer after fast charging to 95% when it was 37 degrees Celsius outside. The battery temp hit 42 degrees. The fans worked hard to cool it, but I had to stop 2 hours later due to a main circuit error and had to call a tow truck. The repair cost was 75,000 EUR (covered by warranty) including 2 new motors and a high voltage battery.
