Rear light cover broke after Thanksgiving grocery run…anyone else?

I was getting groceries out of the back when the edge of a frozen turkey hit the cover. It broke, and the top piece fell off. Thanksgiving turkey strikes again :joy:. Has anyone else had this piece break?

Try car-part.com, it’s a junkyard search site. You can find a replacement and do it yourself.

Prices usually range between $175 and $250. Check if you can find one near you.

Thanks for the tip!

No, but it looks easy to fix. You might need to replace the whole taillight, though.

Wow, that’s one expensive turkey accident!

Exactly what I was worried about.

Might get downvoted, but just break the other side so they match :laughing:

You’re on the edge of genius and madness, my friend. I’m tempted!

It’s a bit of a hassle but you could do it yourself. Buying the part and DIY is the cheapest way. Otherwise, labor can push it to $400–600.

I made a YouTube tutorial for a rear tailgate garnish replacement, similar to this repair. Search ‘rear tailgate garnish assembly’ for the video.

@Pax
Dealer quoted me $1100 for this!

Welcome to dealer prices :joy:. It’s doable as a DIY project. With a little help, you can probably get it done in under two hours. I spent extra time figuring out where all the bolts were.

@Pax
Thanks! I’ll check out your video.

The taillights are pricey! I paid $300 for a used one but still need to figure out the best way to replace it. Another thread suggested lifting the top, but I’d love a real diagram if anyone has one.

Let me know if you find instructions.

What about using crazy glue? If it’s not noticeable, only you’ll know.

Might be worth trying!

Maybe try a clear acrylic binder? The type where two different solutions combine to make it set clear?

I’ll look into it.
