Passenger Display Burned Out?

Hello everyone,

I got into my 2021 Taycan 4S after work today, and when I turned it on, the passenger display was acting up. The screen itself looks fine, and I’ve only had about three passengers in the car, so it’s strange. Any advice before I head to the dealership on Monday for another issue? Thanks

That looks like it could be expensive to fix.

Sounds like the passenger must have been listening to something pretty intense!

Could be a loose cable, maybe?

Most LCD screens in cars use automotive-grade connectors that lock into place. If it’s the harness and there hasn’t been an accident, it might be rodent damage.

@Orion
Rodent damage!? I work at a school where we’ve had some rodent issues recently, so that could be a real possibility. I have to go to the dealership on Monday anyway, so I’m not too worried. This CPO is a blessing, but still, rodents, really?

@Zander
Yeah, rodents are attracted to EVs. They get all the warmth without the risk of engine parts crushing them, plus there’s no gas smell to scare them off.

That makes sense! But I’m in Miami, where it’s warm everywhere. Why did they have to choose MY CAR? lol. If someone had mentioned rodents as a potential cause earlier, I would have thought you were joking, but it makes sense.

@Zander
Let’s hope it’s just the screen and not rodent damage, otherwise they might not cover the cost. Please keep us updated after your visit to the dealership.

Since the car is so new, I have both CPO and factory warranty. Would they really not cover it? It’s wild that you mentioned rodents because, like I said, we have a problem at work, but I park far from the building.

@Zander
Unfortunately, rodent damage isn’t covered by any warranty, but there’s a slight chance they might do a goodwill repair for you. I think your issue is either with the harness or the LCD panel; let’s hope it’s just the latter.

@Orion
I just spoke to the exterminator. He said in 15 years, he’s only seen rodents inside a vehicle twice. They usually strike at night, and since I only work during the day, hopefully, it’s something Porsche is responsible for and not rodents.

@Zander
Just don’t mention it? Make it sound like a rodent came with the car when you bought it?

Haha, I won’t say anything. I’ll just tell them it doesn’t work like I did before this thread.

@Zander
Yeah, the warranty probably won’t cover it, and it can get really expensive quickly. Often, it ends up being an insurance claim.

I’d love to replace mine with an aftermarket one that has Bluetooth and streaming capabilities.

Me too, but I think that would void the warranty? The passenger display seems kind of useless to me, and I don’t even want to get it fixed if it’s going to cost over $999.

Do you know where I can get an aftermarket passenger display?

That doesn’t look like a burnout; it seems more like a damaged display cable.

I assume that would be an easy fix for the dealership, right?
