Just keep in mind, as the lead/acid battery charges and discharges, it produces hydrogen and oxygen, which can cause an explosion. Not something you want to deal with.

If I start the day with a dead battery and end up like a two-faced character, I’ll know I messed up the jump-start. Glad I avoided that.

You can connect it to any unpainted metal part of the car, usually a bolt somewhere. The chassis is often grounded through the battery’s negative terminal.
I wouldn’t just connect it to any metal part. It should be an unpainted part under the hood, ideally a couple of feet away from the battery.
Once I get it charged, do I need to drive straight to get a new battery, or can I run some errands first?

If you’re using a portable battery pack to jump the car, go to your appointment and jump it again afterward. Then go get a new battery after your appointment.

It could just be that the battery ran down because you left the light on, or it could be the end of its life. If you’ve been charging it regularly and haven’t been using it too much, I’d replace it soon. But don’t buy from the dealer. I got mine replaced for £55.

I’ve got the same question, so I’m waiting for a reply too.

I would suggest getting it tested right away. If it’s bad, replace it immediately unless you want to keep jump-starting every time.
If your 12V battery is dead, don’t just buy one. Take your car to a place that can test it first…
