Just got a 2021, anyone else having issues with Android Auto?

I just picked up a 2021 car and I love it so far, but I’ve only had it for about 3 hours. My only issue is that the USB port isn’t recognizing my phone for Android Auto. I’m hoping it’s just the cable. I’m ordering a wireless dongle to solve it.

Here are the details:
OTD: 19k (cash)
Year: 2021 (first in service in 2021)
Miles: 44.7k
Trim: Premium
New tires by the dealer.

Nice choice, and the wireless dongle is definitely the way to go. Mine kept eating cables until I switched to that.

Wireless dongle?

Oh, sorry, I was asking “what wireless dongle?”

There are Android Auto/Apple CarPlay dongles on Amazon. You plug them into the USB and it enables wireless connections. They’re about $50.

@Einstein
Ahh nice. Thanks.

Nice choice, I’m thinking of getting a Niro EV. What made you go for one with around 40k miles?

The price made a big difference. There were a couple of 2022 models with 30k miles, but they were about $2k more. Other than that, they’re basically the same car. This one was sold in late 2021.

@Einstein
Nice, yeah that Kia badge redesign came at the wrong time :joy: How’s driving it? My daily commute is about 35 miles in the UK, so it should work for the Niro. The problem is I don’t have home charging, so I’ll have to rely on public charging for a while.

@Mason
I love driving it. It’s great. My commute is 25 miles one way :sweat_smile:. I plan to mix in public transportation to offset the mileage.

Just FYI, I picked up a 2020 with 82k miles in August for $16k. But after the $4k federal rebate and $3.5k from Massachusetts, I only paid $8500.

The battery is still great, everything works, although the cold weather has made some rubber bushings squeak now and then.

When I drive it with a full charge, I get about 327 miles, but in cold weather with the heat on, it dropped to around 220 miles.

Still a fantastic car though.

Definitely consider getting one.

For Android/Apple connection, get a really good quality cable. It makes all the difference.

I have to push my USB cable to the right in the port, and then it works for me. Welcome to the club!

Android Auto is wired? My 2021 allows wireless CarPlay.

Android Auto is wired, but CarPlay is wireless in the 2021s before they switched back to wired CarPlay for a while.

@Teo
I didn’t know they had two different systems for Android Auto and CarPlay.

@Teo
My 2022 has wireless CarPlay, and it works perfectly.

Interesting. Our 2021 has had issues since we bought it new.

My Android Auto is wireless in my 2021. Isn’t that the same for everyone?
