I’m thinking about buying the upcoming model and I’ve heard rumors that Hyundai is upset about unsold 2024 stock. It doesn’t seem like a smart business move to me. There’s talk about a $7,500 tax credit disappearing with the new US administration. What’s the real story here? Does Hyundai usually give wrong dates in their marketing? It doesn’t seem right that they’d mislead customers if everything was fine. I’m not familiar with their business practices, so I’m hoping someone here can fill me in.
Here are two major issues:
- There are still 2024 models waiting to be moved to dealerships. They won’t launch the 2025 models until those are sold. There’s likely to be a big sales push in January.
- The 2025 models will use NACS instead of CCS, so they’re waiting until Hyundai has access to Tesla superchargers. This is expected around mid-February, similar to Kia’s timeline.
@Teo
Hyundai is already offering various deals like $7,500 off or 0% APR. They might even combine offers, depending on how desperate they are to clear out the older models.

Exactly. The discounts depend on how urgently they need to sell the older models and how much loss they can afford.

I’ve heard that the market for gas cars is really slow, and there’s a high rate of repossessions. It feels like there could be a crash in the car market similar to the 2008 housing crisis. I’m holding off on buying a second car for now, waiting for prices to drop.

There’s a dealer in NJ offering great deals on low mileage cars that were bought back under lemon laws. They had a 22 SEL AWD for $15K after a $4K tax credit earlier this month. I almost bought it. Here’s their website: Used Cars Available in New Jersey | Automotive Avenues
@Teo
I looked at a used Kia Niro EV there, but had trouble getting insurance because it was a lemon. It’s a risk, but sometimes you can get a great deal. Just be careful with insurance.

That’s odd because most insurance companies are okay with lemon law titles, as long as the car has been repaired to meet manufacturer specifications.

Ended up keeping my Kona EV and got a Bolt EUV instead. The Bolt has a huge backseat, which is great for my kids.
@Teo
You’re probably right about the inventory issues. Also, the new US factory for Hyundai started a bit late, which is why they’re still shipping 2024 models.
@Teo
Dealers in my area have a mix of 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, all priced near MSRP. I managed to get a great deal on a 2024 loaner car as a CPO for $20k off MSRP because it was never officially owned.
@Teo
NACS access is a big deal, but it looks like Tesla is making sure they don’t accidentally allow access to other brands when Hyundai starts using their chargers.

The 2025 models will come with adapters for NACS to CCS1, which means they can use other chargers at better speeds than current Superchargers offer. I’m curious if they’ll include free charging at EA stations.
There’s a bit of exaggeration about the 2024 models still at ports. My dealer says they can’t get any more from the rep. The 2025 models are on track, just undergoing extra checks at the new factory. They’re not rushing it, which is smart. There are plenty of dealers in the US and Canada, so distribution will vary by location.
@Finch
I’m picking up a 2024 model on Monday. The deal was too good to pass up even though I wanted a 2025.

Can you share the details of the deal you got? I’m looking for the best price on a test drive today.
@Greer
I got a lease for 36 months at $390 a month, including tax, with 10k miles and $4k down for a limited AWD. I felt good about it, but think I could have bargained a bit more. Had to rush because of time constraints.
@Payne
They could have offered a better deal. I got a similar model in NJ for $316 a month, with $3,500 down and a competitor brand rebate which knocked $1k off.

It’s for my fiancée; she doesn’t have a car right now.
It looks like the 2025 models are starting to arrive at dealerships in my area. Here’s one that’s already listed: https://www.selmahyundai.com/new/Hyundai/2025-Hyundai-IONIQ+5-for+sale+fresno+california-de6c31abac1846038fd2a7824ad062d9.htm
