Is the Hyundai Inster the Best Small Car Ever Made?

I’m looking at the Hyundai Inster and honestly wondering if it’s the best small EV out there. Great features, good range, but is it really as good as people say? Any thoughts?

It’s definitely one of the better small EVs around. The space inside is great, plus you can fold all the seats flat. It has a decent range, good price, and the V2L feature is super practical. Only downside is the charging speed… It’d be nice if it went up to 90kW, but I guess with a smaller battery it’s less of an issue.

@Noe
Yeah, the charging could be better. But from what I’ve seen, it goes from 10% to 80% in about half an hour, which isn’t too bad. Even the R5 and EC3 take about the same time at 100kW. So maybe it won’t make a big difference in the real world.

Would be awesome if they brought it to the U.S.

Nah, you’ll just end up with a giant SUV instead. That’s how it is here.

shakes fist in frustration

The Inster should be available in Australia soon with two battery options. The base model is expected to go for around 40,000 AUD (about 27,000 USD) before other fees. Feels like it’s Hyundai’s version of the affordable EV everyone’s waiting for.

This car really makes me believe Hyundai knows what they’re doing in the EV space. It seems like they’re hitting all the right notes.

The specs are solid, but I’m not really a fan of how it looks. I’d go for the new Renault 5 if it was available here, but I doubt we’ll get either the Inster or the Renault in Canada. Maybe there’s hope for the VW ID.2.

Feels like there’s a lot of unused space in the cabin. When you look at cars like the original Renault Twingo or the VW Up, those were small city cars that really maximized the space.

As a tall person, I can tell you that space isn’t wasted at all. I need that room for my knees.

There’s a Twingo EV coming next year that’s styled like the old mk1. Should be interesting.

This might be the best small EV out there. Wish they’d added a bigger battery, though. A 77kWh battery would be a dream.

49 kWh is pretty decent. That should get it over 400 km in city driving, which is probably where most people will use it.

@Hadi
And it should still do around 200-250 km on the highway, which is usually when you’d want a quick stop anyway. Might even get more based on the tests I’ve seen. I’m interested in it, even though the design isn’t my favourite.

I keep thinking about what BMW could’ve done with the I3. Loved that car. It was perfect for this type of market.
