In-car WiFi hotspot

I am about to switch wireless providers, and I discovered that the car itself can function as a WiFi hotspot with Verizon. Although I have seen it on other automobiles, I have never used it. My girlfriend’s granddaughters do have tablets that need to be connected to WiFi, so I often have them in the van with me.

What is the advantage if any of utilizing the automobile as a hotspot over using one of our phones for the same function?
