Man, that was a great deal. It’s crazy how some companies will just write off a car as a total loss over what seems like minor damage.
What a great deal! I’ve heard that insurance companies tend to write off EVs quickly because they’re worried about the costs. Congrats on the purchase .
@Aki
They probably won’t mind. They see these cars as just another number, so they probably won’t care much about the details.
Forgot to mention some downsides of importing a car from another country:
-
KIA Connect doesn’t work (but I’ve been told that they plan to launch it in my country soon and might be able to connect me for a fee).
-
No warranty or free recalls (I’m being careful with charging to avoid any issues because I don’t want to pay $2000 for something that would’ve been covered in the US).
-
Even though my local KIA dealership sells EV6, they have EU specs, so many of their parts are incompatible with the US version, and I might need to order parts from the US if anything breaks.
@Aki
KIA Connect isn’t that great anyway, so you’re not missing much.

I actually like KIA Connect. It’s nice being able to warm up the car while having breakfast.
@Aki
Check the warranty laws in your country. In the US, the law requires OEMs to cover safety recalls and even seat belt issues, even if the car has been totaled.
That’s awesome! Congrats! I thought I got a good deal last week, but yours beats mine. I got mine at a KIA dealership as certified pre-owned. It’s a 2023 Light, with only 7500 miles, and I got it for $26,000 because it was the last day of October and they needed one more sale to reach their quota. It’s flawless, not a scratch anywhere. The previous owner really took care of it.
@Chen
Oh nice, I would’ve gladly paid a little extra for 9 years of warranty if that was possible! Congrats to you as well .

Thanks, I’m so happy. I’ve been eyeing this car for a year or two, and even the best deals never went under $35K.
I really love that candy apple red!
$5000 for shipping from the USA to Georgia sounds like a good deal. Not as good as the purchase price, though.

The shipping cost was around $3000, including ground transport in the US and sea shipping. The remaining $2K was auction fees and paperwork for customs in Georgia (no import tax for EVs there).
What website did you find this car on?

I found it on copart.com.
Great bargain. Insurance companies are quick to write off EVs around here. They’re probably scared of the cost and the time it takes to repair them. They also charge more for EV policies.
Did it jump a curb and mess up the suspension?

It wasn’t a curb, I think it was something sharp because the tire was damaged and replaced. No issues with the suspension though.
I love reading about wins like this! Congrats! I love that color too. Kia and Hyundai were my second picks after Tesla.
