How do you protect your charge port from snow and ice

I don’t think this is necessary

Maybe, but it’s a fun little project to try. Plus, it might save me some time scraping ice in the morning.

What about snow and ice getting into the door parts? I don’t get why most cars don’t just have the charger door open upwards like Tesla does.

The Nissan Leaf has an upward-opening charger door too.

Ioniq 5 has it as well.

Good point. Maybe I’ll just cover it with a plastic bag before going to bed.

You could use one of those water spigot warmers. Just cut it to fit around the charging cable and cover the port with it.

That’s a solid idea! I thought about something like that too. Luckily, we don’t get much harsh weather here in Virginia, so this was more of a fun experiment.

I don’t have to worry about this stuff. I have a garage.

Lucky you. I live in California, so I barely deal with snow either.

That’s a good suggestion! Just make sure it fully covers the flap and the area around it before buying. If you’re handy, you can even make one yourself. Just sew some magnets into the seams. Speakers or earbuds usually have small magnets you can repurpose.

This seems unnecessary. It might even scratch the car.

How much did this cost you? It looks expensive.

Not much at all. It’s more about the effort than the money. I’ll make sure to pass this masterpiece down to my kids though, haha.

I haven’t had a need for something like this yet, but it’s good to have ideas in case we get a cold spell here in southern England. Thanks for sharing.

I just used a bag from Denny’s with the cardboard piece still in it. The handles fit perfectly over the cable.

I’ve seen worse ideas than this, to be honest.

Here’s what I use. It’s a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth it.
