Honda and Acura EVs to Get Tesla Supercharger Access This Spring...What Does That Mean for Users?

Honda and Acura are set to integrate Tesla Supercharger access into their EVs this spring. This will allow users to charge at Tesla’s Supercharger stations. It seems like a good step forward for drivers, but how will it affect the overall EV charging experience?

I saw a Prologue charging next to me at a Supercharger this morning

Yes, if you put in a Chevy car, it works because it’s a Chevy internally, so they can’t tell the difference.

Yeah, they technically have access now if you tell the Tesla app you have a Chevy Blazer EV and buy your own adapter. Sounds like this is making things official, with adapters from Honda/Acura and Superchargers on onboard navigation.

Yes, the workaround is telling the app and charger you’re in a Chevrolet Blazer EV. They’re the same under the hood, so it works.

Users tell the Tesla app they have a GM EV, and it works.

For real, I saw an Acura ZDX charging with me at a site along with my Equinox EV.

Yep! You can input a Chevy car and it works.

Any CCS1 car can use a magic dock-equipped Supercharger. This change would let them use an adapter at more Superchargers (but not all of them).

@Blake
Ahh…how do you know which Superchargers are magic dock equipped?

You can go to https://www.tesla.com/findus and filter by ‘Open to Other EVs.’

Prologue must look like a GM to Tesla. Seems like they can do it already.

If they say they’re a Blazer in the Tesla app, it works. But if they choose Prologue, it doesn’t.

I would consider a Honda EV for my next car if it comes with this access.

It’s a GM, it already has access.

The Prologue already does, but it’s a $200 adapter. When they make it official, you might get the adapter for free.

Don’t count on the timeline, it might change. I have a Kia EV, and a very specific January 15th, 2025 date for Kia to use Tesla superchargers was listed, but it’s now delayed to ‘sometime this spring.’

@Abi
BMW was supposed to be ‘early 2025,’ now it’s pushed to ‘late 2025.’

@Abi
I was hoping Hyundai would get access at the same time since the new Ioniq 5 has a NACS port and can already charge there. I’ve got a road trip in February with my 2024 Ioniq 5. Looks like I’ll have to plan a different route.

Uh-huh. And Kia will get it on Jan 15… Oh wait. They should just surprise us with the announcement when they actually have access instead of giving deadlines that keep changing.
