Why would they hold onto your car while waiting for parts? If they do the update, it should stop the ICCU from failing.

You’ve got it wrong. The recall reads the DTCs from your car. If no ICCU fault codes show up, they’ll just update the software. If fault codes exist, they’ll schedule a date to replace the ICCU. My neighbour had to wait three weeks for a new ICCU after the fault codes showed up.
