I’ve read that Tesla chargers should work now if we have the right adapter. I own a 2022 Kia and will need to buy an adapter, which isn’t free. I also heard that some people might need a software update.
Has anyone managed to use an adapter for NACS charging with their Kia yet? Do we need the new software? I imagine I’ll be able to use ABRP or other apps to find chargers. Can we still pay for the charging without the update? Please share your experience with us.
I bought the well-reviewed A2Z Typhoon Pro adapter for my 2022 Niro EV, just like many others. I’m hearing that Kia owners can now use Superchargers.
No software update needed – just pick a Hyundai EV (like the Kona) in the Tesla app to find nearby Superchargers. Plug in the adapter, open the Tesla app to pay, and you should be good to go.
I’ve seen successful reports from Niro and EV6 owners. I’m planning to try it tomorrow at a nearby Supercharger.
@Blake
I tried it today with the 2022 model and the A2Z Typhoon adapter, but it didn’t work. My Niro immediately showed ‘charging complete’ and didn’t charge at all. Looks like there’s a communication issue.
@Ren
Oh no, that’s frustrating. I saw someone with a 2023 model had success, and the Gen 1 Kona EVs, which are similar to our Gen 1 Niros, seem to work.
It might be car-specific or a charger-specific problem. I’ll try mine tomorrow in Seattle and see what happens.
@Blake
Sorry to hear about the issues with Gen 1 Niros. I just checked and was able to charge at a different Supercharger. Looks like they haven’t blocked us yet (MY23).
@junita101
That’s a small Supercharger with just 4 stalls. It’s the smallest I’ve seen. There have been several reports about issues with Gen 1 Niros, unfortunately.

I couldn’t get my 2022 Niro to charge either, so it seems like the first-generation Niro EVs might need something else for this to work.
That’s disappointing. I’m not sure it’s worth testing tomorrow now, but I’m still considering it.

I think Tesla might still be adding VINs to their database. They might be starting with the newest models and working backwards. That’s why 2023 and 2024 models seem to work but 2022 ones don’t yet.
Just a thought… no hardware issues, since people with 2021-2022 Kona EVs have had success. If I switch my car to a Kona in the app, I see all the nearby Superchargers.
@Blake
I’ve got the same Niro and bought the adapter a few weeks ago. I set it up on the Tesla app as a Niro, but my closest Supercharger doesn’t show as compatible. I’ll try using the Hyundai setting and see what happens.

Just to confirm, was this Supercharger listed as compatible with non-Teslas using the NACS adapter? Some V3 Superchargers are Tesla-only.
There have been some issues with Gen 1 Niros in other threads. Some users might be making mistakes when connecting the adapter, as it needs a firm insertion into the NACS port.

Yes, the supercharger location was listed as a NACS Partner Site, and I used the A2Z Typhoon Pro adapter.
I was able to charge without any issues on a CCS fast charger an hour later.
