So my friend has a 2019 Niro EV with 115,000 miles and hasn’t done much maintenance except for tire rotations and a coolant change because of a sensor issue. What should they get checked?
I have a 2020 and all I’ve done is replace two tires and change the cabin air filter.

Mine is a 2019 with 36,000 miles. So far, I’ve done:
- Tire rotations
- Tire balancing
- Coolant flush (recall)
- Changed wipers
I need to swap out my cabin air filter, and I’m pretty sure the 12V battery is due soon.
Honestly, just give it a proper wash and throw on a ceramic coat. Should be good for another 100k miles.
Wipers and cabin air filter should probably be replaced.
My 2019 Niro EV has 142,000 km.
I had to get the reduction gear replaced to stop the WoF noise and also had the A/C core replaced. Twice a year, when I swap out my snow tires, I have the brakes checked and cleaned. Still running on the original pads and rotors.
@Bennett
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what’s the WoF noise?

Wheel of Fortune.

So that’s the noise the gearbox makes when it’s wearing out?
@PixelPaladin
Yeah, could be the gearbox or the motor. It’s a tapping sound that changes with speed. Kia swapped my drive motor at 45k miles to fix it.
Cabin filter is probably due, and I’d bet it needs new tires and wipers by now.
That’s about it. EV life is simple.
Your friend should probably change the reduction gear oil. Other than that, they seem to be doing fine.
175,829 km on my 2020.
Had the reduction gear changed under warranty for the WoF noise and replaced the tires (running Nokian One now). I also changed the cabin filter a couple of times and topped up the windshield washer fluid. I should probably wash the car at some point…
Where I live, hybrids aren’t very common, and my dealer treats my HEV Niro like a regular car. He insists on maintenance every 5,000 km for oil changes and inspections. As far as I know, hybrids only need an oil change every 10,000 to 15,000 km. It’s frustrating because I have to follow this schedule to keep the warranty. On top of that, I feel like they’re overlooking parts specific to hybrids since they put my car under a regular maintenance plan. Is there any way Kia can clarify this for them?
@Blair
Check the owner’s manual. It should list the required maintenance.

Good idea. I’ll check and show them what it says. Hopefully, they listen.
He says I need an oil change every 5,000 km
An oil change every 3,000 miles? Sounds like he’s trying to sell more service appointments…
