EV Convertibles?

Are there any PHEV or electric convertibles in the works? An electric Miata or something more substantial, like a four-seat drop-top BMW or Audi, would be nice to see. While I am aware that these are sold in small quantities, it would seem feasible to have a shared chassis. Is it related to weight?

Even though the new Boxster will be beyond my budget for some time, I am excited about its release (hoping for a lease return after 2-3 years). Though it would be great if BMW could electrify one of those, for now the ICE Z4 will have to do. Small convertibles have the challenge of finding a place to fit all the batteries without adding too much weight, so driving over winding roads is still enjoyable.

As someone excited about the future of electric vehicles, I’ve done extensive research on the current and upcoming options for EV convertibles. While the market is still limited, there are a few exciting models on the horizon. The Tesla Roadster 2.0, expected in 2025, promises incredible performance with a 0-60 mph time under 2 seconds and 600 miles of range. The Polestar 6, set for release in 2026, will offer 884 horsepower and over 300 miles of range in a sleek hard-top convertible design. Mercedes-AMG is also considering an electric convertible, likely arriving around 2026 with a premium price tag. Jeep is taking a unique approach with the Recon, featuring a one-touch power top and removable doors and glass for open-air off-roading

. While the EV convertible market is still in its early stages, these models demonstrate the potential for thrilling open-top driving experiences in the electric age.
