My kid and I wish to start a project to convert an outdated gas-powered ATV to electric power. Since neither of us has experience with this approach before, I am searching for some pointers. Regarding motor size, what are your thoughts? AC or DC motors? size of battery? or direct me to already completed builds?
I can share some tips.
Motor: Go for a DC motor. Easier to find and cheaper. We used a 48V DC motor, which worked great.
Battery: Lithium-ion batteries are your best bet. We used a 48V 30Ah battery, and it gave us decent range and power.
Completed Builds: Check out forums like DIY Electric Car and Instructables. Tons of helpful projects there.
