Did I overpay or get a fair deal on my new car…?

I just bought a 2019 Niro EX for $18,000 with 40,000 miles on it. It comes with an extended warranty that lasts up to 100,000 miles. I needed a car quickly, so I couldn’t shop around much. There were no rebates or tax credits on it either. This is the price before taxes and fees. How much do you think I overpaid?

Honestly, not too much! This really depends on the area you’re in.

Hmm, maybe around $1,000 to $2,000 over, but it’s not a huge overpay. If you can charge it with residential electricity rates, you’re still getting good value.

I actually have a home charger set up.

@Blake
Oh, then you’re all set! Get a level 2 charger, and you’re good to go.

I paid about the same for a 2020 model with 22k miles (though mine needed new tires and no extended warranty). If yours is in good shape, you’re in a solid spot. Having that warranty adds a bit more value too.

@Axel
Mine has a tiny bit of curb rash on one rim, but the tires are brand new, and it’s in great shape overall. I really love the car, especially the silver color. I just keep hearing that I paid too much, so I wanted to check. Thanks for helping me feel better about it .

@Blake
I love mine too! Don’t listen to the naysayers. Check out the MSRP on a new one, and you’ll probably laugh—people saying you overpaid have no clue what new car prices are like.

Not too bad. I bought a 2020 model with 33k miles for $14,000 after a rebate (was $18,000 before that). I feel like I got a good deal, though.

Mine had 32k miles and cost $17,000 total. I thought I got a steal too! I can still get around $15,500 to $17,000 trade-in value at 43k miles, so it’s not that bad.

Wow, that sounds like a really great deal .

@Blake
My partner and I just got two 2022 EX models with under 20k miles for $18k each last week.

@Blake
I had to fly 300 miles and go through an interstate sale to get it, but worth it. These Niro EVs hold their value pretty well; they’re practical, and mine’s an EX Premium with more range than the EPA estimate.

I think you did fine. The price seems pretty average, and everyone wants a bargain. But time is valuable too—I didn’t have the luxury of months of searching and negotiating either. I’m happy with my price.

Fair price, really. You wouldn’t find it much below $15,000, especially with a dealer warranty included.

It’s not bad. That’s close to what it might have gone for around here like 10 months ago, but prices have gone up. I’m in a cheaper area though.

I just got a 2022 EX Premium with 27k miles for $20,000, and that’s after a tax credit.

I looked at the EX Premium, but I’m not a fan of sunroofs, and I noticed the powered seats don’t have memory settings, so I actually preferred the manual seats.

@Blake
Actually, the memory function on the EX Premium is usually on buttons on the door (not tied to the key), and there’s an option that slides the seat back when you open the door. Here’s a video showing it: https://youtu.be/XM0P3mcDqKc?si=OzJX5NEHnN0zD6l4

@Aubrey
Thanks for this info! I didn’t know about that—I’m picking mine up soon.
