I managed to charge my 2023 Niro Wave at a Tesla Supercharger. I set my vehicle in the Tesla app as a 2024 Kona, chose a charger, and started charging. I connected the A2Z adapter and plugged it in. It worked just fine. I started with 50% charge, reached 55kW until 56%, then dropped to 40kW at 56%. It went back up to 55kW at 61% and then dropped to 40kW again at 66%. Not the fastest, but it works.
Finally! Thank you! I just ordered the adapter from Amazon.
I ordered an adapter a few days ago, still waiting for it. Do you think this would work for my 2020 Niro? I set my Tesla app to a 2020 Kona EV and it seems to show superchargers near me. I’ll test it once the adapter arrives.
@Milo
I also have a 2020 Niro. I’d love to know if the Supercharger works with an adapter for these too.
I used my 2024 Niro at a NASC Tesla Supercharger in Tukwila, WA, with 40°F weather. I preconditioned the battery and was charging at 75kW until 45% SOC. It dropped to 55kW at 50%. Used the A2Z Typhoon Pro and added a Kona to the Tesla app along with my Kia. It’s not the fastest, but it’s good enough. Road trip time!
@Rowan
I don’t think the 2023 model has preconditioning.

From what I know, all new generation models ('23 and later) have preconditioning. It’s in the EV settings menu and is tied to the NAV system. However, it only works under a few conditions: 1. The car must be above 20% charge. 2. You need to select a DC fast charger in the NAV system. 3. The temperature needs to be cold enough. It will turn off below 20% charge. Also, the preconditioning setting will reset if you change your charging settings.
@Shannon
The numbers you mentioned add up to 69. Fun fact!
@Shannon
I checked through the EV settings and couldn’t find anything about preconditioning. Maybe it’s not standard? I have the 2023 Niro Wind.

You’re right, the Wind trim doesn’t include the battery heater for preconditioning, even in the latest models.
@Shannon
Does the charging stop once it reaches 80%? I don’t think it would stop below 20% SOC. Can you clarify?

The preconditioning heater won’t work below 20% SOC. However, you can always plug the car in and charge, even if it’s under 20%.
@Shannon
Got it. Thanks .
@Rowan
Nice! I have a 2023 Niro Wave and just bought a Typhoon Pro. I noticed it has a dual locking mechanism. Can you tell me how the two locking modes work?

Are you asking about the physical locking mechanisms that secure the charger? It’s designed so it’s difficult to pull out the charger by yanking the cable. There’s also a car mechanism that locks the charger in place while charging, but I didn’t test that feature myself.
@Rowan
The manual mentions two different ‘levels’ for the locking mechanism – one for the CCS1 side latch and the other for the NACS side pin. They seem to be triggered by the same button on top. Any thoughts?
Awesome news! Thanks for the heads up! I’m on a road trip and will test this out once I reach my destination. Same model and year. Exciting .
This is great! I have a 2022 Niro and bought the A2Z adapter for a longer trip this weekend. I was bummed by the delay, but it looks like it will work now! I found that if I set my car to a Hyundai Ioniq5 in the app, it shows Superchargers nearby, but nothing shows when I select Niro.
Following to see if this works for others too.
Thanks! Maybe Kia just delayed the navigation software update and adapter sales, but Tesla has already whitelisted Kia cars.
